- In addition to traditional magical creatures, the game also features unique foes like Fastidio's Monster, a formidable and unusual opponent.
There are numerous beasts and creatures in Hogwarts Legacy, which come in all shapes and sizes. Some of these creatures are friendly, where others are formidable foes. Indeed, the largest beasts and creatures in Hogwarts Legacy usually become enemies to battle in some way, often giving players a unique set of challenges to face in combat.
While it's tricky to know the exact proportions of all these creatures, it's pretty straightforward to see which are the largest just by looking at them. There are also particular locations or quests where players can encounter these giant foes for those seeking a challenge. There are also some creatures that don't make this list, such as the Giant Squid in the Black Lake, given players don't ever really get to see much of it to ascertain its true size beyond its slippery tentacles.
8 Thestrals, Hippogriffs, Unicorns, And Centaurs
Classic-Sized Magical Creatures Or Mounts
- All are tameable beasts found in the wild
- Hippogriffs encountered during quests like Hippogriff Marks The Spot
- Players encounter a unicorn during The Unique Unicorn side quest
- A Thestral encounter is in the Foal of the Dead sidequest
The smallest creatures on the list, but still comparably large compared to the player, these horse-sized magical beasts are a beautiful sight. Whether players are gracefully riding a Hippogriff or Thestral on land or soaring through the air, these are some of the larger magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy that aren't enemies. Unicorns are also a similarly-sized creature that players can tame and collect for their Vivarium Biomes in the Room of the Requirement.
Centaurs would also fall into this category in terms of size, but they aren't creatures that players can interact with beyond cut scenes - unless following them around the Forbidden Forest counts.
7 Acromantula And Matriarch
Spiders Of Nightmarish Proportions
- Found in the wild in Spider Lair locations on the map
- Players also encounter an Acromantula during The Absconder Encounter quest
While Hogwarts Legacy has a handy Arachnophobia Mode to diminish the scare-factor of these eight-legged critters, the sheer size of Hogwarts Legacy's spiders is enough to make anyone's hair stand on end. Spiders in Hogwarts Legacy come in all shapes and sizes, but the Acromantula and Matriarch are the biggest varieties. Fortunately, these species aren't as big as other magical creatures or beasts in the RPG. However, most arachnophobes would probably agree they are more than big enough.
Hogwarts Legacy: 7 Most Interesting Locations To Visit
Players shouldn't miss these interesting locales scattered throughout Hogwarts Legacy.
Due to their size, Acromantulas in particular are also tougher to take down compared to other spiders and foes in the game, making them one of Hogwarts Legacy's strongest beasts.
6 Fastidio's Monster
An Unusual But Intimidating Magical Creature
- Only encountered during the Minding Your Own Business side quest
Fastidio's Monster is a rather unusual, magical-like creature that appears during Hogwarts Legacy's "Minding Your Own Business" quest. Originally a PS5 exclusive, it's now a quest that all players have access to as part of the game's Summer 2024 update. Fastidio's Monster is a creature that's cobbled together using pieces of furniture, and looks almost, if perhaps not quite as large, as a Troll.
This makes Fastidio's Monster one of the more unique-looking creatures in the game, albeit its attack style seems similar to a Troll, with it charging at players and launching various projectiles. However, upon defeat, it crumbles into a pile of rubble, turning it back into the original-sized objects it was made up of.
5 Trolls
A Classic And Ferocious Creature
- Found in various locations in the wild, like Troll Lairs
- Encountered in various Hogwarts Legacy main quests like Welcome to Hogsmeade and side quests like Troll Control
Trolls in Hogwarts Legacy have a few different forms, with some being armored and some looking more like a traditional, fantasy-esque Cave Troll. However, they all stand tall around the same sort of size, albeit, perhaps not quite as tall as the magical Pensieve Guardians. Trolls in Hogwarts Legacy are also a common yet ferocious and powerful foe to contend with. While spells like Avada Kedavra can take them down pretty easily, players who prefer not to use the Dark Arts may need to find a combination of strong or overpowered spells in Hogwarts Legacy to defeat them.
Hogwarts Legacy: 23 Secret Locations You Might Have Missed
Given Hogwarts Legacy's huge open world, it's possible that players may have missed some of its more secret locations.
Players can come across Trolls during various Hogwarts Legacy quests, and also find them in the wild in areas like Troll Lairs, where they become a source of resources, like Troll Bogeys, once defeated.
4 Pensieve Guardian
A Tall And Formidable Foe
- Found during the main story quest, Percival Rackham's Trial
The Pensieve Guardian is perhaps one of Hogwarts Legacy's hardest bosses to fight with its powerful orb-like attacks, and also one of the largest foes that players come across with its towering stature. While there are smaller variants of this magical-like creature, the Pensieve Guardian is a worthy foe at the end of some of Percival Rackam's Trials that players must dodge and defend against.
In terms of size, the Pensieve Guardian appears to stand much taller than Trolls, but isn't necessarily as heavily-built as a Graphorn, which is an altogether different type of beast by comparison.
3 Graphorn
A Majestic And Powerful Magical Beast
- Encountered during San Bakar's trial during the main questline
- Found in the wild in the Graphorn Den on Clagmar Coast
Graphorns are undoubtedly the biggest mount in Hogwarts Legacy. Not only are they tall, they are also powerful, stocky creatures that hit like a battering ram. Once players first encounter and tame a Graphorn known as Lord of the Shore in San Bakar's Trial, they can then find and catch Graphorns from Graphorn Dens found in the wild. According to Wizarding World, Graphorns are also big enough for Trolls to ride them.
Hogwarts Legacy: All Vivarium Biomes, Ranked
Vivariums are safe havens for beasts, where Hogwarts Legacy players can feed and brush their pets, play ball games and even breed them.
To catch a Graphorn, players will have to first fight and weaken it. There are also only a small number of Graphorns available, with only two more to find in the wild. However, players can breed Graphorns in the Room of Requirement if they wish to obtain an adorable baby Graphorn offspring. The latter is, of course, much smaller than the full-size version.
2 Ranrok Dragon Boss And Hebridean Black Dragon
A Staple Large Creature From Magic And Fantasy
- Ranrok's dragon form - The Final Repository main quest
- Hebridean Black Dragon - Poached Egg side quest
While Graphorns are often considered the biggest beasts in Hogwarts Legacy, there is a creature that could be deemed much larger - a dragon. Of course, players first see a dragon during the opening cutscene, where its sheer size compared to other magical creatures in the game is apparent. Players also help save a Heribean Black Dragon during the "Poppy's Poached Egg" sidequest, which is one of Hogwart's Legacy's creatures that is not seen in the movies.
Players also have to physically fight Ranrok in his large dragon form during "The Final Repository" main mission towards the end of the game. According to Wizarding World, it's a huge and extremely dangerous species of dragon that can grow up to thirty feet long and has a XXXXX Ministry of Magic classification.
1 Death
So Large It Dwarfs An Entire Town
- Only encountered during Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial in the main story quest
While not strictly speaking a Hogwarts Legacy beast or creature in the traditional sense, Death could be considered the largest type of other-worldly creature in Hogwarts Legacy, given it towers over an entire strange and seemingly fictional town. It's a foe that only appears during Niamh Fitzgerald'sTrial, one of Charles Rookwood's Keeper Trials in Hogwarts Legacy. This quest sees players enter The Deathly Hallows fable and hide from a giant hooded skeleton representative of Death. Players must also either avoid or fight the creatures that Death summons.
While defining what Death is in these moments is somewhat tricky, in terms of size, it's undoubtedly the biggest foe that players come up against in the entire game.
