2022 is already a monumental year for games with heavy-hitters launching this February, which include some of the year's early Game of the Year contenders. Sifu and Horizon Forbidden West will soon be met with this week's release of Elden Ring, and it may be difficult for subsequent months this year to contend with such a lineup.
However, 2022 is still scheduled to release a few other highly anticipated titles that fans have been excited for. Recently, reputable leakers who frequent social media have surmised that a new PlayStation State of Play is allegedly imminent. This speculation thread started with a post from Tom Henderson, who had previously leaked details about Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse before it was officially announced. Now, another leaker seems to have suggested that Hogwarts Legacy will play a big role in March's rumored State of Play.
Twitter user and leaker Shpeshal_Nick had responded to Henderson's thread and described the rumored State of Play as "the good one." This created speculation about what that could entail, but prominent leaker AccountNGT has since responded to that description in the thread with nothing but a magic wand emoji, suggesting that Hogwarts Legacy will make an appearance in some capacity. AccountNGT recently leaked supposed details about Hogwarts Legacy that included a September release, which would officially cement it for a 2022 launch if true.
None of the leakers share whether they believe the State of Play will feature Hogwarts Legacy exclusively. It would excite fans to see official gameplay as a showcase or an in-depth trailer that walks fans through some of Hogwarts Legacy's core features. Moreover, leakers seem certain about March as the window for the next State of Play or PlayStation Showcase. However, they are unsure about when in March it may air. Either way, the event and the possibility of Hogwarts Legacy appearing are both merely rumors at this point with no official verification.
Stray, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and God of War: Ragnarok are only a handful of other titles that could be shown off if there is indeed a new State of Play that fans can look forward to next month. With little announced or shared from many of 2022's releases it is possible that some of them may be delayed until 2023, where they will then contend with the launch of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Hogwarts Legacy is currently scheduled to release in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
