Accessing these special treasure chests can prove a puzzling task, especially for first-time players, as they will have to use Hogwarts Legacy' s disillusionment charm to turn invisible just to get near them. Even with that invisibility in place, players still need to be sneaky in order to get close enough to open the chests, which will snap shut if anything seems off to their singular eye, which is constantly moving around and scanning the area in front of it.

The bizarre and mystical movements of the Hogwarts Legacy eye chests have been captured in the real world by Instagram user mysterymakers_3d, who recently unveiled their miniature machine-crafted mechanical creation. The eye on each chest rolls back and forth, seemingly gazing at anyone who might come near it, and blinking its metallic golden eyelid after each lateral scan. The creator, who specializes in making 3D printer blueprints for do-it-yourself crafting projects, includes the blueprints on their Patreon page for anyone wishing to print out the pieces and build their own chest.

Hogwarts Legacy Fan Creates Working Eye Chest

The creator did not give the exact measurements of the chest, though it appears to be just small enough that it would fit in their outstretched hand. A video of the chest's creation on their Instagram page shows that it requires the assembly of a little over a dozen pieces, including the wires and other mechanical components, and the video's description says that the 3D-printed pieces use gold and marble filaments. Even for the particularly sneaky, these are permanently locked versions of the Hogwarts Legacy chests, as the lids are purely for cosmetic appeal and do not actually open.

The creator has also shared their creation on Reddit, where they go by the handle mmmmystery. One fan on that site asked if there is a motion sensor in the eye, and while the creator has used motion sensors in other projects, they haven't yet found room for one in the eye chests. Although the creator's Instagram page contains 3D projects from a wide variety of fandoms, from Skeletor to Star Wars, they seem to have a particular affinity for the Harry Potter-inspired game, noting that they've completed a full run with every Hogwarts Legacy house.
