Ever since its launch in February, Hogwarts Legacy has been a success. Part of the reason for the astounding success is that the title gives players several methods to use their creativity and self-expression while exploring its magical world. The Room of Requirement, for instance, allows gamers to create stunning vivariums to walk around or display their pets. Alternatively, personalizing their character with the excellent character generator is another method to express one's creativity in the game.
Now, the Hogwarts Legacy player Tommy0guns has recreated the famous Rick Astley as their main character. In a screenshot from the game, it’s possible to see the character, who is named Rick Roll and has a striking similarity to the real-world singer, talking to professor Fig. Rick Astley became one of the most famous memes of the 2000s when someone took his 1987 music video “Never Gonna Give You Up” and made it a bait and switch link. People would click on the link thinking it would lead to something, only to be “rickrolled” when it actually led to his video.
In the comments of the Reddit post, some users made fun of the character, saying that they actually thought it was the comedian Conan O’Brien or the fictional character Tintin. However, not everybody was so thrilled with the possibilities offered by the character creator. One user commented that they do not understand why the hair in the game “looked worse than Oblivion." Some of these limitations could, for instance, be solved by using character mods for Hogwarts Legacy.
Despite its vibrant and creative community, the Hogwarts Legacy craze is starting to calm down. Recently, the Hogwarts Legacy player count on Steam dropped dramatically. It fell 47.44% in a single month, meaning that most players played it for a while, and then forgot about it soon after the launch. Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player game, not a live service title, so it’s expected that most people will simply move on after finishing it. Also, the drop could have been so big exactly because there were so many people playing it, as the game was one of the best-selling titles of the year. So, it still remains to be seen how this could affect the online community that was formed around the title.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions release on April 4 and the Nintendo Switch version releases on July 25.
