The Merlin Trials are puzzles that can be found all over the map of Hogwarts Legacy. The puzzles vary and differ in each Trial, as they offer players a challenging experience during the game. Furthermore, they require the use of Spells to move, flip, or levitate certain objects in Hogwarts Legacy.
The South Hogwarts Region is where players are first introduced to the Merlin Trials during the Trials of Merlin main quest. The quest is triggered after players hear Nora Treadwell fight with a couple of Ashwinders.
All Merlin South Hogwarts Region Trials In Hogwarts Legacy
There are a total of 15 Merlin Trials in the South Hogwarts Region in Hogwarts Legacy. Given the large size of the area, 15 trials is a reasonable amount to have.
The 15 Merlin Trials are:
- Brazier Puzzle x2
- Orbs Platforms Puzzle x2
- Stone Sphere Puzzle x4
- Stone Pillar Puzzle x2
- Firefly Puzzle x3
- Platform Bridge Puzzle
- Orbs Pillars Puzzle
Merlin Trial #1 - Brazier Puzzle
The first Merlin Trial in this region is located east of Lower Hogsfield. To solve it, players need to cast Confringo to light up the three Brazier above the pillars. The pillars are easy to spot as they’re right next to the Trial. Additionally, starting from the tallest pillar is important because it will begin descending as soon as players light it up, and time is limited.
Merlin Trial #2 - Orbs Platforms Puzzle
To reach the second Merlin Trial, teleport to the Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame and head southwest. Once there, follow these steps to solve the puzzle:
- Move east to reach the first platform
- Go south and cast Wingardium Leviosa on the orbs to levitate them
- Guide the orbs to the platform
- Head west to the second platform
- Turn south and use Wingardium Leviosa to lift the orbs from the cliff and place them on the platform
- Go east to find the third platform located behind some rocks
- Use Wingardium Leviosa to lift the orbs and return them to the platform
Merlin Trial #3 - Stone Sphere Puzzle
The third Merlin Trial can be found north of Lower Hogsfield, but as there is no fast travel waypoint, players can use a Broom or a Flying Mount in Hogwarts Legacy to reach it.
Start by using Mallowsweet to activate the Merlin Trial then head southwest to locate the stone sphere and its pit by casting Revelio. Once found, use either Depulso or Wingardium Leviosa to either push or levitate the sphere into its pit.
Merlin Trial #4 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
To reach the fourth Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts Region, travel west from the third trial location. This task requires players to destroy five stone pillars located at various points around the Trial:
- One located southwest
- One located south
- One located northeast
- One located north
- One located west
Merlin Trial #5 - Firefly Puzzle
The fifth Trial is south of the Mooncalf Den Floo Flame in the South Hogwarts Regions. This puzzle requires players to locate three swarms of fireflies to light up three Moonstone pillars. To solve it:
- Head northwest to get the fireflies beside the Ashwinder Eggs in Hogwarts Legacy
- Cast Lumos and guide them south to the Moonstone pillar
- Go southeast to the bridge
- Use Lumos to attract the fireflies beside it
- Lead them to the Moonstone pillar east of the Merlin Trial
- Cross the bridge and head northwest to find the fireflies
- Guide them back to the Moonstone pillar in front of the bridge
Merlin Trial #6 - Stone Sphere Puzzle
Similar to the previous Trial, teleport to Mooncalf Den Floo Flame and head south to arrive at the sixth Merlin Trial. On top of a hill north of the Trial location, players can find the sphere. Cast Wingardium Leviosa on the stone sphere to levitate it, or use Depulso to push it into the pit.
Merlin Trial #7 - Stone Sphere Puzzle
Teleport to Aranshire Floo Flame and head southwest to the seventh Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts Region. To solve the puzzle, cast Wingardium Leviosa on the sphere behind the Trial and guide it to its pit.
Merlin Trial #8 - Firefly Puzzle
The eighth Merlin Trial is south of the Aranshire Floo Flame, so there's no need to use the Broom in Hogwarts Legacy. Upon offering some Mallowsweet, a bunch of fireflies will spawn. To solve it:
- Cast Lumos to gather the fireflies near the altar
- Turn southwest and descend the cliff to reach the first Moonstone pillar
- Go west and descend the cliff to locate the fireflies
- Use Lumos to attract them to the Wand in Hogwarts Legacy
- Head southeast to deliver the fireflies to the second Moonstone pillar
- Go northwest to locate the third Moonstone pillar
- Head north to get its fireflies
Merlin Trial #9 - Orbs Platforms Puzzle
The ninth Trial is extremely close to the previous Trial and cannot be missed. Solving this puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy requires players to:
- Go north to locate the first platform
- Head northeast and use Wingardium Leviosa to get the orbs from behind the stone fence
- Levitate them back to the first platform
- Locate the second platform south of the Merlin Trial
- Go north to guide the orbs back to the platform with the Wingardium Leviosa Spell in Hogwarts Legacy
- Head east to find the third platform
- Go southeast and guide the orbs back to the platform
