Hollow Knight: Silksong is still hiding in the shadows, but 2025 is looking like a promising year for the Hollow Knight follow-up. The development cycle for Silksong has become one of the most grueling waiting periods in modern gaming. This new chapter brings Hornet into the spotlight, and with her comes a fresh setting and characters.

The finer details about Silksong have successfully been kept under wraps for years. Many are eager to see what's in store, and with companies like Nintendo and Xbox mentioning the game at recent showcases, there is hope that Silksong will finally come out of the darkness and onto gamers' consoles. Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin even claimed that Silksong could arrive before Christmas. Once the game finally arrives, being introduced to a fresh cast will be thrilling, but one particular character could be a great source of inspiration: Monomon the Teacher.

The Hollow Knight: Silksong subreddit resorts to humorous ritual sacrifices in a bid to preserve hope for the game's 2025 release.

Silksong Would Benefit From Copying Hollow Knight's Early Tease of Monomon the Teacher

Elegy for Hallownest

The opening of Hollow Knight showcases a poem, "Elegy for Hallownest." At first, it's unclear what the significance of the poem is, but later on, when the game introduces Monomon and the other Dreamers, it's a surprising reveal that ties the beginning of the game back to that very moment. The first four lines of the poem help set the tone for the game, and the reveal of its author is deeply satisfying. Silksong's lengthy development has opened the game up to an onslaught of speculation, but copying Hollow Knight's foreshadowing opening in a fresh way could be a strong, but simple, way to tie the two games together.

In wilds beyond they speak your name with reverence and regret,
For none could tame our savage souls yet you the challenge met,
Under palest watch, you taught, we changed, base instincts were redeemed,
A world you gave to bug and beast as they had never dreamed.
- excerpt from "Elegy for Hallownest"

While Matthew Griffin claims that Silksong will launch before Christmas, delays are always possible.

Silksong Can Have its Own Version of Monomon

Since the Dreamers won't be present in Silksong, the sequel will possibly have a new take on a trio. It's unclear what that will look like, but it could be a solid way to foreshadow major names once again. For the past few months, it feels like Team Cherry has continued to tease eager fans with small updates. Just recently, Silksong's Steam page received five updates in the span of two days.

This type of activity has a lot of gamers theorizing that Team Cherry is gearing up for the game's impending launch. Only time will tell, but once players are able to boot up that opening scene, there will be a lot of happy tears around the world. Having a foreshadowing moment in the opening doesn't necessarily have to copy Monomon's poem, either. There are plenty of ways that Team Cherry could take players by surprise.

In addition to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, Silksong will also be available for the Switch 2 and ROG Xbox Ally.

Silksong Will Be Playable Soon, But Only for a Lucky Few

  • On September 18, a portion of Silksong will be playable at an ACMI exhibit in Australia.
  • The exhibit is titled "Game Worlds," and runs until February 2026.

This upcoming museum exhibit in Australia will be the world's first taste of the sequel. While this playable section of the game is only available to exhibit attendees, hearing firsthand accounts is bound to be exciting.

Between the game being showcased at the ACMI exhibit and Matthew Griffin claiming that the game will arrive before the end of the year, Silksong could be one of the biggest launches of 2025. As of now, the wait continues, but getting to experience Silksong's first moments will hopefully be well worth the wait.
