Hornet starts her journey in Pharloom with minimal skills in Hollow Knight: Silksong. As players progress with their exploration, she will eventually unlock more abilities, like the Silkspear and Dash in Silksong. However, the advanced moves like Wall Jump and Double Jump aren’t as easy to get. Here’s how players can unlock the Double Jump (Faydown Cloak) skill in Silksong.
Silksong: Best Tips for Beginners
These eight best Silksong beginner tips will help both new players and veterans find their footing in Pharloom's haunted lands.
How To Unlock Double Jump (Faydown Cloak Skill) In Silksong
To unlock the Double Jump (Faydown Cloak) skill in Silksong, players must reach the peak point on Mount Fay. However, it’s easier said than done because:
- There are minimal benches throughout the journey, and falling possibly will cause you to have to redo the entire thing from the start.
- Healing is also scarce since there’s no enemy during the climb.
- Mount Fay is a snowy area with cold damage, so you can’t stay in the cold too long and must find warming points while platforming.
Because of this, it’s crucial to make minimal mistakes when hiking Mount Fay. Another thing players can try is getting the Ascendant's Grip, which allows them to stick to any wall they touch, greatly helping them when climbing.
The Clawline skill in Silksong is mandatory to enter Mount Fay.
Where to Go After Getting Silkspear & Beating Bell Beast in Silksong
After beating the Bell Beast, Silksong players have a few options for what to do next, including finding new NPCs, new bosses, and multiple new areas.
How To Reach Mount Fay
To reach Mount Fay in Silksong, players must reach The Slab area. There are two ways to reach The Slab:
- Venture there from the Choral Chambers.
- Get "kidnapped" to The Slab without having to reach the Choral Chambers.
Although you don’t need to reach Choral Chambers to unlock The Slab, exploring Mount Fay requires the Clawline skill in Silksong, which means that players need to go to Choral Chambers either way.
How To Explore Mount Fay & Unlock Double Jump In Silksong
Climbing Mount Fay is very challenging as it’s riddled with tricky platforming puzzles. So, here are the steps to help Hornet climb Mount Fay and get the Double Jump skill in Silksong.
Make sure to check out our full interactive map for Silksong right here.
Step 1
Starting from the bench next to Shakra, go left and jump to the two platforms above the frozen lake. From the tiny platform, make a big leap targeting the faraway platform and use Hornet’s hook to reach it.
Step 2
Once Hornet gets outside, leap to the floating rock, making sure Hornet will swiftly jump again after contact. It’s important to be quick and immediately search for the next platform after landing on one.
After the floating rock, there will be three platforms that break on touch after a small delay. Bounce between them, aiming for the next floating platform on top of them.
From the floating platform, jump and hook onto the enemy in front of it, and quickly aim onto the hoop above and hook onto it as well.
Jump to the wall and climb it by wall jumping. Once you’re leveled with the ring, target it with your hook and immediately hop onto the platform beside it. Before that platform breaks, leap to the next wall above and keep wall jumping until reaching the warm spot.
What to Do First in Silksong
At the start of the game, prioritize these things to do first in Silksong to meet important NPCs and unlock useful items and abilities.
Step 3
Jump onto the wall and keep ascending between the two walls, avoiding the spikes. Eventually, Hornet needs to float in between spikes to make it to the other side.
After that, it’s a new set of platforms and enemies that Hornet needs to go through to get one step closer to getting the Double Jump skill in Silksong.
Although Hornet made it out of the spikes hell, she’s still in midair and doesn’t have a warm spot nearby. So, it’s important to keep moving to the next target. Hook the enemy and leap to the platform beside it. Then, hook onto the next enemy to reach the wall and wall jump onto the ledge above, reaching the second warm spot if players keep moving left after the ledge.
Step 4
Get inside the cave and avoid the enemy since it doesn’t drop anything important, and HP is extremely important at this time. Once you reach a ledge, drop and keep Hornet to the left side so she can land on the first floor she encounters. Keep going left and avoid any monsters until reaching another frozen lake.
Jump to the enemy in front to maintain Hornet’s high position and float until you see a hoop that can be used to bounce Hornet onto the wall next to it, into the next warm spot.
Step 5
Keep doing the same moves of moving between enemies, hoops, and warm spots until reaching the exit into the tower door.
As usual in this climbing challenge, even if Hornet is inside the tower, keep going up, getting ready for the next set of platforming puzzles.
There's a bench below that can be accessed by heading left, down, then breaking the wall to the right. However, players must spend some Rosaries to unlock it.
Step 6
After the warm rest, it’s time to get into the cold again. Climb the walls above the tower, then ascend onto the floating rock. Nearby, there’s an enemy that Hornet can harpoon onto, which will provide enough force to allow Hornet to climb that floating rock.
From the floating platform, leap to the hook next to it, then make another jump, targeting the enemy flying nearby.
Step 7
After that, the puzzle starts getting repetitive with more walls, spikes, and floating platforms. However, repetitiveness doesn’t mean less danger. With a hard climb like that, without having access to healing or enough benches. Some players may get lost when reaching the end of this step, as the next enemy is unreachable.
Step 8
So, contrary to the last few steps, get into the cave and keep ascending until reaching another frozen lake.
As with the previous frozen lakes challenges, hook onto the bug and use the momentum to jump onto the breakable platform at the end.
Keep harpooning between enemies and breakable platforms until reaching the last bug. Here, you need to hook onto the wall on the left side and bounce onto the ledge to get to the next warm spot.
Step 9
After progressing left, Hornet will reach a small frozen lake with a large rock in the middle. Hook onto the first bug and jump onto that rock. It will break, so stay on top of it. This way, Hornet doesn’t touch the lake and starts freezing. Hook into the last enemy, before going into the chamber, where rocks are covering the exit.
Step 10
Getting out of the cave means no more warmth, and Hornet must start platforming again to get to the next warm spot. Use the harpoon to get to the bug flying outside the cave, then bounce left and hook onto a hoop. Now that there are no major distances between the next platforms, Hornet can harpoon and jump freely between the hoops and enemies.
Eventually, Hornet can wall jump and enter the hole that will take her into the next area, where she will discover a bench.
Step 11
The final steps before reaching the Double Jump skill in Silksong look exactly the same as the previous ones, but this time it’s more challenging. Start by jumping to the wall above the bench chamber, then hook onto the ring next to it.
From the ring, jump onto a higher wall, then hook onto another hoop, before aiming for the big rock on its left. Keep going up to find a nice warm spot in between the spikes.
As usual, float around the spikes, avoiding them, and hook onto the enemy to stay in the air. One mistake here means that Hornet will fall through the entire mountain, and the journey to climb Mount Fay will start from the very beginning. Jump again to the right, where there are three breakable platforms that Hornet can bounce between to reach a higher location.
Keep alternating between enemies and breakable platforms until Hornet reaches a wall where she can wall jump onto its ledge. Leap onto the bug flying in between the two ledges to reach the further one.
The warm spot should be after reaching the higher mountain. After reaching that wall, use wall jumps to move up, giving Hornet an easier time hooking the bug there. Once the bug is hooked, aim Hornet’s momentum at the wall beside the bug. It’s a breakable wall, so make sure to bounce onto the actual wall after.
Wall jump your way up, avoiding the spikes and ascending on top of them. Once Hornet reaches an empty area where she can’t wall jump her way up, there should be a bug with a breakable platform next to it. Use them to reach the next wall, which will take Hornet to the last remaining challenge before she gets the Faydown Cloak skill in Silksong.
Step 12
After Hornet makes it into the last area, she must find the air current that will take her to the top. The air current is available on the left side of the area. Here, the challenge ends, and Hornet can claim her Faydown Cloak Skill to be able to Double Jump in Silksong.
