Hollow Knight Silksong A Vassal Lost Quest Guide

Hollow Knight: Silksong players who complete the game (or press Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right on the Extras menu) will unlock a special permadeath mode. Other than losing all of one's progress when Hornet dies, Steel Soul mode plays out much the same as a regular playthrough, only with two major differences.

The first is that the Dead Bug's Purse is replaced by the Shell Satchel due to the former only being useful if and when Hornet dies. The other is a secret Hollow Knight: Silksong side quest called A Vassal Lost, which can only be triggered in Steel Soul mode and rewards players with some additional lore and an incredibly useful item.

How to Start A Vassal Lost in Hollow Knight: Silksong

To start A Vassal Lost, players will need to make their way to the cave on the far eastern side of the Blasted Steps. Once there, they'll see an NPC called Steel Seer Zi, although they won't be able to talk to her right away. Instead, they'll need to hit her to wake her up, after which, the Speak prompt will appear. They can then speak with Steel Seer Zi twice to accept her Wish. As mentioned above, A Vassal Lost can only be triggered while playing Silksong on Steel Soul mode.

How to Complete A Vassal Lost

To complete A Vassal Lost, players will need to inspect three spots on the map. One is at the top of Bone Bottom above the path leading into Shellwood, one is in the Putrified Ducts to the east of Fleatopia, and one is in Far Fields, southeast of Pilgrim's Rest. The locations of all three are marked clearly on the player's map once they've promised the Wish, and they'll be free to visit them in any order they like. After inspecting the third camp, they'll be directed back to Bone Bottom and a secret cave just to the west of Bonegrave.

Inside the cave, players will find Steel Seer Zi's Vassal, who is attempting to summon a nightmarish creature from the void. Sadly, Hornet arrives too late to stop them, forcing players to square off against the Summoned Saviour. Thankfully, this is a relatively simple fight when compared to some of the other boss fights in Silksong, with players only really needing to worry about its projectiles, which affect the area immediately in front of and beneath it. Assuming they can dodge these effectively, they shouldn't have too much trouble.

A Vassal Lost Side Quest Rewards

After defeating the Summoned Savior, players should speak with the Vassal again and then return to Steel Seer Zi in the Blasted Steps. She'll thank Hornet for her help and then reward her with an item called the Growstone. The Growstone is a consumable item that rewards players with Shell Shards. However, unlike most of the other consumables in Silksong, the Growstone will regenerate over time, allowing players to reuse it once enough time has passed.
