A new Hollow Knight: Silksong mod can make the game even more difficult if anyone thought it wasn't enough of a challenge as is. The long-awaited sequel to Team Cherry's beloved Metroidvania has predictably been a smash hit, and the modding community quickly hopped on it to tweak it and give fans more ways to play. Several of these mods address Hollow Knight: Silksong's difficulty, but not all do so in the way players might expect.
The first Hollow Knight was notable for its difficulty, particularly in its platforming, and its sequel has seemingly dialed things up even higher. Team Cherry confirmed that it purposefully made Silksong harder than its predecessor to match the game's story and world, as Hornet is supposed to be faster and more skilled than the Knight, demanding a greater challenge. While the powerful enemies and frustrating platforming segments may be a struggle for some gamers, others have thought things could go further.
Some Gamers Are Already Saying Hollow Knight: Silksong is Too Hard
Team Cherry's Hollow Knight: Silksong has not been out for long, but some players already believe that the popular platformer is too hard.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Mod Introduces Crest That Removes Hornet's Cloak and Needle
One Hollow Knight: Silksong mod, called Crest Master, adds a new difficulty mode by giving players a crest that takes away Hornet's cloak and needle. Players must already fight through those conditions in part of the game, as Silksong's The Slab location sees Hornet lose all her gear, leaving her with just kicks and basic movement abilities. However, while players get their gear back by playing through The Slab, the new Cloakless crest in Crest Master lets them expand those challenging conditions to the entire game. That means taking on bosses without the added mobility of the cloak and while doing roughly a fifth of the normal level of damage.
Crest Master is not only a new difficulty setting. The main purpose of the mod is to let players instantly switch between crests without needing to sit on a bench. That includes all Silksong's seven main game crests and the new Cloakless one the mod introduces. Immediate crest-switching can be a huge advantage, as each crest offers unique movement and combat abilities. Normally, gamers would have to decide which best suits their play style or switch between them for differing sections to balance the trade-offs of each, but Crest Master removes the need for those impactful choices.
Naturally, though, much of the attention from fans hasn't focused on the Crest Master's primary purpose, but rather, on the Cloakless crest. There's some irony to the fact that while Team Cherry has issued updates to make Silksong easier, there are fans out there offering new ways to make it harder.
