There are seven crests in Hollow Knight: Silksong, each of which has its own unique ability and tool layout. With the exception of the Hunter Crest, players can unlock new slots for their crests using Memory Lockets, with the Hunter Crest upgrades tied to the total number of Memory Lockets that players have used.

By speaking with Eva after using a certain number of lockets, it's also possible to get two special Vesticrests, which grant access to one additional Yellow (four lockets) and Blue (twelve lockets) slot for all seven Hollow Knight: Silksong crests. Unsurprisingly, the best crests typically become available toward the end of the game.

What's the Best Crest in Silksong?
The best crest in Silksong is undoubtedly the Shaman's Crest, which allows players to equip three white tools/silk skills at the same time. Granted, it doesn't have any slots for red or yellow tools, but after acquiring both Vesticrests, players can at least equip one of the latter as well as three blue tools. The Architect Crest is a close second, as being able to equip three red tools can be a real game-changer during certain boss fights, and it can be acquired much earlier in the game. Last but not least is the Reaper Crest, which makes for a fantastic early-game crest, beating out the Hunter Crest thanks to its ability to generate additional Silk.
Those having trouble adjusting to Silksong's new diagonal downward slash may want to consider using the
Wanderer Crest for traversal, as this makes Hornet's down slash more like the pogo attack in Hollow Knight.
