On the day before Gamescom Opening Night Live, show host Geoff Keighley posted a selfie of himself wearing a clown nose, which could signify that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be part of the broadcast. Keighley's selfie is an acknowledgment of a popular meme surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong and the lack of updates that fans have endured for years.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was revealed in February 2019 as a standalone sequel rather than an expansion to the first Hollow Knight title. Though some details about Hollow Knight: Silksong remain a mystery, the game will focus on Hornet as the main protagonist, who takes over for The Knight as the character that Silksong players will control. Although news about Hollow Knight: Silksong has been scant at best since its initial 2019 announcement, which has subsequently resulted in memes and disappointment from fans, momentum surrounding Team Cherry's latest project has been rekindled throughout 2025.
Rumor: New Bethesda Game Could Be Announced at Gamescom 2025
According to sources, Bethesda's plans for Gamescom could include the reveal of a surprise new title during the popular European gaming expo.
The Wait For Hollow Knight: Silksong May Soon Be Over
In the hours leading up to Gamescom Opening Night Live in Cologne, Germany, the show's host offered Hollow Knight: Silksong fans a glimmer of hope and a dash of humor. On Twitter, Geoff Keighley posted a selfie from his hotel room, as he donned a red clown nose and reminded fans to tune into Opening Night Live at 2:00 PM Eastern on August 19. The clown nose Keighley wore was part of a long-standing meme among Hollow Knight: Silksong fans, who often used images of clowns or makeup to make self-deprecating jokes and hide their disappointment that Hollow Knight: Silksong would not be part of a broadcast like a Nintendo Direct or Summer Game Fest. However, Keighley's clown nose may mean that the meme is finally real.
Additionally, Gamescom attendee AlexHmpf posted on Twitter that Hollow Knight: Silksong booths for the Switch 2 and Xbox versions are being set up at the Koelnmesse exhibition center before Gamescom kicks off. While Hollow Knight: Silksong does not have an official release date other than its 2025 release window, the launch of another device may offer fans a clue. Xbox president Sarah Bond stated that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at launch on the ROG Xbox Ally handheld system, which could go live on October 16, according to past leaks.
Fans unable to attend Gamescom will have another opportunity in September to try out Hollow Knight: Silksong, as the game will be at the Game Worlds exhibition in Melbourne, Australia. But, between the Hollow Knight: Silksong booths going up at Gamescom and Keighley's clown nose, the wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong's release may soon be over.
