What Does Spider Strings Do in Silksong

Spider Strings is a Yellow Tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong that can be obtained after completing a series of side quests during Act 2. Players who obtain the item may find themselves confused by its vague descriptions and uncertain wording, which don’t fully explain what the item actually does or what effects it might have during combat.

How to Get Spider Strings in Silksong

Spider Strings Location

Spider Strings can be purchased from Jubilana in Songclave for 320 Rosaries during Act 2 of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Jubilana will be introduced as a merchant after “The Wandering Merchant” is completed, but her stock of available items will not include the Spider Strings Tool until after “The Lost Merchant” Wish is granted.

“The Wandering Merchant” is one of the very first quests that appears on the Songclave Wishboard. “The Lost Merchant,” however, requires players to first complete a series of prerequisite quests before it becomes available. Here is the list of quests you need to complete to unlock in order:

Faydown Cloak (Double Jump) is required to complete The Lost Merchant.

Prerequisites	How to Complete
Building Up Songclave	After the first time you arrive at Songclave, talk to the Caretaker, and you’ll be able to donate 300 Rosaries for the Building Up Songclave quest.
The Wandering Merchant	After Building Up Songclave has been completed, rest at a bench and return to the Wishboard to find The Wandering Merchant quest.
Balm for the Wounded	Building Up Songclave is also a requirement to trigger the Balm for the Wounded quest, which requires you to protect Sherma from a wave of enemies in a hidden area in Whiteward.
Fine Pins	Collect 10 Fine Pins from Reed and Choristor enemies in the Choral Chambers area.
Strengthening Songclave	After Fine Pins is completed, return to the Songclave Wishboard to find a donation quest asking for 500 Rosaries.
The Lost Merchant	After Strengthening Songclave is done, The Lost Merchant quest will appear on the Songclave Wishboard. Find Jubilana on the bridge in Memorium and defeat two waves of enemies to complete the quest.

After completing every prerequisite quest, fast travel away using the nearby Ventrica, rest on a bench, then return to Songclave to trigger the next Wish in the sequence.

Once The Lost Merchant Wish has been granted, Jubilana will return to Songclave, this time with the Spider Strings on sale for 320 Rosaries.

What Does the Spider Strings Do in Silksong?

How Does Spider Strings Work?

The Spider Strings “expands and strengthens the effects of the Needolin.” What this means is that with the Spider Strings equipped, Needolin’s effects will have a larger AoE, indicated by a white halo that surrounds Hornet as she plays.

In addition, various areas across Silksong have special interactions with this “strengthened” version of the Needolin, revealing hidden dialogue and lore that would remain otherwise inaccessible.

In combat, the expanded range means players will be able to stun more enemies using the Needolin. However, because Hornet has no way to attack enemies during this time, even using Tools like Cogfly, it offers no tactical benefit during fights.

That said, being able to affect faraway enemies using the Needolin means you will be able to hear their exclusive “songs” as they are lulled into a trance more easily. Doing it without the Spider Strings would require getting dangerously close.
