While exploring The Slab in Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will discover many locks blocking further progression, which could cause frustration. There are three keys in total in The Slab, and the Key of Apostate, which unlocks the second half of the area, is thrown somewhere far away and requires a special ability to reach it.

Key Of Apostate Location In Silksong
The Key of Apostate is located in Putrified Ducts and can be accessed in more than one way in Silksong. However, keep in mind that Clawline and Double Jump are required to proceed.
The two routes are:
- Head down from the top of the Putrified Ducts, which is accessed from the Memorium. You must find a secret opening in the ceiling in one of the rooms, then walk to the end of the Memorium. Next, climb up the wall and destroy the breakable rock to gain access to Putrified Ducts.
- The lower route is accessible from Bilewater, but you must defeat a boss blocking the way.
Bilewater Route
Start from the Bellway and keep climbing up using the Double Jump to eventually reach Shakra's location.
Use the vertical platforms as a shield from the enemy's ranged attack. Once it's safe, go higher and Clawline your way to the other side. Cling to the wall and climb up. Next, cling to the left wall and jump higher to find another vertical platform. Use the Clawline on the green bulb above the enemy to easily reach the right wall.
Platform your way up by clinging to the walls and avoiding the spikes to proceed through the right door. In the next room, there are enemies and vertical platforms, similar to those in the previous area. Cling to the wall and shoot the green bulb with Clawline to reach the other side. Climb higher and shoot the enemy this time to easily land on the platform and head right through the door. Proceed into the area and then climb higher. Then, fly directly onto the platform using Clawline. Walk past the hanging enemies into the next room.
Jump on the temporary platforms without falling into the water, glide down the tunnel, and then climb the next one. Avoid the enemies' attacks without triggering any of the traps to eventually Double Jump to a higher platform. Move right to proceed further.
In the next area, players must use a combination of Double Jump and Clawline to climb higher. Try to stay on the left side and use the green bulbs to your advantage to go high. Head through the first door to the left.
Players need to prepare as there's a boss fight at the end of the path. You will first be attacked by a couple of flying enemies that shoot you from afar. Use Clawline to reach them and deal some damage. Eventually, Groal will appear and use similar mechanics. The boss will dive into the water and suddenly jump up high. It will also plunge attack or use a ranged attack by shooting multiple shots at Hornet.
Players can access this boss from the left instead of the right, so they have a checkpoint at a nearby bench. This means that it's best to claim the Apostate Key from the Memorium.
Once the fight is over, keep going left to create a shortcut by cutting the rope and then jump up to arrive at the Putrified Ducts. Use the platform to go higher and enter a tunnel to the left, but beware, as there's a big enemy waiting in the dark.
After dealing with the enemy or avoiding it, jump to the platform on the left. Destroy the glowing object to claim the Key of Apostate in Silksong. In this section of Putrified Ducts, you can also start the Broodfeast quest.
My Missing Brother Quest In Silksong (Pill's Location)
Although the track in the My Missing Brother quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong starts at Greymoor, Pill's location is far in the Sinner's Road.
Where To Use The Key Of Apostate In Silksong
The Key of Apostate can be used on two locks while exploring The Slab in Hollow Knight: Silksong. One unlocks a new area to explore while the other reveals a puzzle.
Lock Of Apostate Location #1
The first Lock of Apostate is to enter The Slab without being kidnapped. It's easily accessible from The Slab Bellway, just keep going up while turning right to reach it. Go through the door and go up first to open the shortcut, then slide down. Proceed right into the room with some lore tablets.
Look up and combine Double Jump and Clawline to climb the tunnel and enter the door at the end. Keep going left until the Heretic Lock appears. From here, players are free to roam around and gather the remaining keys to unlock the rest of the doors.
Lock Of Apostate Location #2
To reach the second Apostate Lock in Silksong, head up from the Heretic Lock to find the bench sign. Continue climbing to the top to eventually reach the lock. Inside, there's a puzzle Hornet can solve to get a mask shard.
To solve the puzzle behind the Apostate Lock, complete the following steps:
- Press the button four times to spawn four wheels.
- Double Jump onto the platform above.
- Wait for a wheel to come closer and then use it to jump higher and cling to the left wall.
- Climb higher to easily jump on the two wheels and cling to the right wall.
- Wait for one of the wheels to approach the ledge, then jump on it to reach the platform.
- Grab the mask shard.
