How to Get Fractured Mask in Silksong

The Fractured Mask is a powerful defensive Tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong that gives Hornet another chance to live in dire situations. Like quite a few other Tools in the game, this item is entirely missable and requires players to go out of their way to search for it.

Obtaining the Fractured Mask can be done fairly early on in Act 1 of Silksong, as the item is located in one of the very first areas players access in the game. Here's where to find it.

How to Get the Fractured Mask in Silksong

The Fractured Mask can be purchased from Mottled Skarr in Hunter's March in Hollow Knight: Silksong for 260 Rosaries. Mottled Skarr is a secret vendor who can be found in the room directly above the trapped bench.

Once you have unlocked the Drifter's Cloak by completing the Flexile Pines quest, you can ride the air current at the location marked on the Hunter's March map to reach the top of a tall shaft. On the top level, you will find the entrance to a seemingly empty room to the left.

Here, hug the left wall and jump left to enter the secret passage leading to Mottled Skarr. Avoid the traps, and you'll find the NPC sitting on the leftmost side of the room.

He sells the following items:

Curveclaw (140 Rosaries)
Fractured Mask (260 Rosaries)
Shard Bundle (50 Rosaries)

Mottled Skarr will die some time after Act 2 begins. When you return to his location, you'll only find his dead body alongside a dropped Curveclaw; the Fractured Mask will not be there. It's unclear if this means players will not be able to obtain this item for the remainder of the playthrough or if it will become available later on through other means.

How Does the Fractured Mask Work in Silksong?

What Does the Fractured Mask Do?

The Fractured Mask is a blue Tool that has the following description:

Shields against critical damage but shatters on impact.

If shattered, the mask will be repaired while resting at a bench.

The Fractured Mask protects Hornet from one instance of critical damage, which can occur in one of two ways:

Hits that deal two hearts/masks worth of damage to Hornet.
Hits that would destroy Hornet's last heart/mask.

In case of fatal hits, the Fractured Mask completely nullifies all damage once before breaking. In the case of 2-heart damage, the item shields Hornet from one heart's worth of extra damage while the remaining one heart's damage goes through. In both cases, the Fractured Mask will only work once before being destroyed and can only be restored by resting on a bench.
