After years of theories, rumors, and even worry, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally on the way. The sequel to developer Team Cherry's indie hit will be available in a mere two weeks, putting to rest the long wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong. It's truly the end of an era, but with each end comes a brand-new beginning, and the promise of Silksong being a reality after so long has been one of the most thrilling announcements to come from this year's Gamescom.
The Gamescom reveal introduced a fresh trailer, and with it, a sneak peek into protagonist Hornet's mission and the mysterious Kingdom of Pharloom. While there are still plenty of questions left unanswered, it's clear that Silksong will feature a variety of exciting biomes to traverse. Each area is bound to bring its own unique set of challenges, but one in particular stands out. Silksong features a lava-heavy environment, and for fans of Hollow Knight's "The Floor is Lava" challenge, this biome could be one of its most intriguing.
Hollow Knight: Silksong comes out on September 4 for the Nintendo Switch 1&2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.
Hollow Knight's "The Floor is Lava" Challenge Gets Turned Into a Full-Blown Biome in Silksong
What is "The Floor is Lava" Challenge?
Within the Hollow Knight community, players who are in search of an even bigger challenge will sometimes partake in "The Floor is Lava." This is a fan-invented challenge that requires players to keep the Knight from touching the ground. If players touch the ground, there are mods available that inflict damage. It's the ultimate test of platforming skills that can be both thrilling and downright sweat-inducing. Hollow Knight is no easy game, so throwing the added rule of not being able to touch the ground makes for a grueling time.
Silksong is Teasing a Harrowing Volcanic Environment
In the span of Silksong's almost two-minute trailer, the preview offered a sneak peek at the many different environments and levels that players will have to platform. One of the most intriguing is a moment where Hornet is trying to escape an actual lava floor that is quickly rising as she works to outrun it. Silksong is promising a new and exciting chapter for the indie series, and levels like this volcanic area further prove that action and heart-stopping encounters are bound to be taken to new heights this time around.
It took Team Cherry seven years to bring Silksong to life, and in that time, it's clear that the small team of developers flexed their creativity muscles when it comes to level design. Right now, it's unknown if Silksong's teased lava area was actually directly inspired by "The Floor is Lava" challenge, but if not, it's still a really fun coincidence.
Team Cherry has confirmed that there are future DLC plans in the works for Silksong.

The Arrival of Silksong Still Doesn't Feel Fully Real
After so long, it's wild to think that so much anticipation and anxiety can now be put to rest. Now that Silksong is only two weeks away, it marks the finale of years of great memes and community engagement. Now, fans of Hollow Knight can come together in a brand-new way, as many are bound to celebrate the release of the game together.
There are high expectations for Silksong, and while they may be hard to meet, Team Cherry taking the time to ensure that the game is at a satisfactory stopping point is a promising sign. Only time will tell what the rest of the future holds for Team Cherry, but right now, it's a great time to celebrate the imminent launch of Silksong.
