Hollow Knight: Silksong is missing numerous trophies on PlayStation compared to its achievements on other platforms. The omissions, which may have been out of the developer's hands, make the PS4 and PS5 versions of Hollow Knight: Silksong significantly easier to platinum.
Gameplay spoilers—detailing the premise of Silksong's most difficult achievements—ahead.
Some players have been complaining about Hollow Knight: Silksong being too difficult ever since the game was released on September 4, arguing that its very start is an exceedingly punishing experience. For those who disagree, the game offers a few bonus challenges that significantly up the stakes, with several of them revolving around Steel Soul, a permadeath mode that deletes one's save file when they die.
Things That Make Silksong Harder Than Hollow Knight
Don’t be fooled by the cute aesthetics, Hollow Knight: Silksong is brutal, being even harder than Team Cherry's original game.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Hardest Achievements Aren't Available on PlayStation
As noted by TheGamer, two achievements associated with Hollow Knight Silksong's semi-secret permadeath mode aren't available on PlayStation consoles. These are Steel Soul and Steel Heart, which require players to beat the mode and do it with a 100% completion, respectively. As a result, PS4 and PS5 owners have a significantly easier time platinuming Silksong compared to their peers on other platforms.
Most Difficult Hollow Knight: Silksong Achievements Missing on PSN
-
Speed Completion: Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game in under 30 hours
- PSN still has the 5-hour speedrun trophy
- Steel Soul: Finish the game in Steel Soul mode
- Steel Heart: Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game in Steel Soul mode
Steam and Xbox each list 52 achievements for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Conversely, there are only 34 of them on PlayStation. With the exception of the Steel Soul-focused trophies, the omissions are mostly focused on minor challenges, or at least challenges that aren't as daunting as the ones that remain. For instance, PSN doesn't have the Speed Completion trophy, requiring players to beat Hollow Knight: Silksong in 30 hours, but it does have its extreme variant, Speedrunner, which asks for a 5-hour run.
Why Is Silksong Missing Achievements on PlayStation?
Team Cherry did not comment on these omissions in any capacity. The differences are not unprecedented, as the original Hollow Knight was also missing achievements on PlayStation, where it offered 35 trophies compared to 63 on other platforms. Once upon a time, Sony was imposing strict achievement restrictions on non-full-priced games, which were not even allowed to include Platinum trophies. The policy was so rigid that it applied even to high-profile developers such as Konami, as Hideo Kojima once recounted when explaining why MGS 5: Ground Zeroes had a smaller PSN trophy list than other versions.
All of this, however, was over a decade ago. These days, shorter PlayStation trophy lists are more likely explained by design philosophy than by policy. As with Hollow Knight, Silksong’s PlayStation achievement list emphasizes major progression milestones, potentially making each trophy more meaningful. And as with Hollow Knight’ s permadeath mode, Silksong’s corresponding achievements are excluded on PlayStation, though the mode itself remains available on both the PS4 and PS5.
