A Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase aired earlier today, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, in fact, was a no-show. That doesn’t mean exhausted, defeated Hollow Knight fans were wrong to believe it could be there, though. Hollow Knight: Silksong seemingly has strong connective tissue with Nintendo after having had gameplay shown, from the opening cutscene to the first boss, during a Nintendo Treehouse: Live segment at E3 2019. Furthermore, the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct featured Hollow Knight: Silksong in a blink-and-miss-it appearance that doubled down on it coming to the platform and releasing in 2025.

That said, it also makes perfect sense why Hollow Knight: Silksong wasn’t at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and nobody should be concerned or agitated in the slightest. Everyone who’s been itching to hear more about Hollow Knight: Silksong since its announcement, a whopping six years ago, should be incredibly familiar with being met with disappointment when it hasn’t made an appearance at countless events since. Fortunately, the wait is nearly over and fans need not be so wary of continued absences in the near future as they’re already set to see more gameplay—and play it, even, if they’re in Cologne, Germany—at the end of next month.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s 2025 Release Finally Feels Like More Than a Pipe Dream Thanks to This Announcement

Hollow Knight: Silksong is lifting its elusive veil and, with the announcement of a monumental appearance soon, may be in its development endgame.

A Hollow Knight: Silksong Demo is Confirmed for Gamescom

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s gamescom demo is the biggest news about the game that will have been shared in quite a while, and how significant this appearance may be is frankly undersold thus far. New gameplay of Hollow Knight: Silksong should be a bountiful feast and reveal a bunch more about the upcoming 2D Metroidvania game.

Between new bosses, enemies, NPCs, settings, biomes, features, and mechanics, it’ll be fascinating to witness how a Hollow Knight sequel this long in the making is taking shape.

Plus, the gamescom demo will be an opportunity to experience how Hollow Knight: Silksong intends to run on both PC and ROG Xbox Ally. There might not be a release date or release window attached to it, but this gamescom demo will easily be the best look at Hollow Knight: Silksong players have had since the year it was initially revealed, surely offering enough to be excited about that a no-show at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase can be forgiven and absolved.

Of course, despite how tightly Xbox is clinging to Hollow Knight: Silksong, there’s always a chance that a release date announcement is being withheld until a potential Nintendo Direct follow-up in September, which is typically when Nintendo likes to air Directs. Either way, the day that Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date is revealed is going to be a biblical moment in video game history.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Release is Imminent Within the Next Several Months

Hollow Knight: Silksong is meme-worthy, and its slipperiness will forever paint an amusing tapestry for Team Cherry’s highly anticipated sequel. If there’s any game that shouldn’t have any certainties ascribed to it, it’s Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Still, the 2025 tail-end release window it has vaguely and firmly held onto seems intact, and there’s currently no reason to believe that it won’t meet a holiday deadline. If nothing else, the ROG Xbox Ally is banking on Hollow Knight: Silksong as a day-one game, as well as Hollow Knight: Silksong being day-one on Xbox Game Pass, which should hopefully ensure that a release date reveal is forthcoming.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s otherworldly popularity is evidence that it’ll dominate whatever month it launches in, be it August, September, October, November, or December, and gamescom’s demo could be the first domino that has to fall in order for subsequent news and announcements to begin pouring out, too. Delays are always possible, and it would be forgivable if it meant Hollow Knight: Silksong had the time it needed to bake to a golden brown, but one day it won’t be alarming to expect to see the game appear somewhere and it actually does.
