News on the title has been very sparing, with many questioning if the game was still in development. Up until recently, almost 700 days had passed since the last major Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement. However, information has surfaced recently that is very promising for fans, as it could hint at a release date being announced very soon.

Silksong’s Release Date Could Be Announced at Xbox Games Showcase

After years of waiting for any news, players finally got to see new gameplay of Hollow Knight: Silksong in a recent Nintendo Direct. Though there wasn’t much to show, this short segment confirmed that the game will release at some point in 2025, as well as making its way to the Switch 2.

Amidst the reveals of new Nintendo Switch 2 titles and news on upcoming releases, even this short snippet of Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay during the Nintendo Direct Partner Spotlight Sizzle Reel was satisfying, knowing that there had been very little revealed about the release in over two years. This sneak peek eased concerns about the state of the game, but the specific release date is still a mystery.

In the Nintendo Direct, Hollow Knight: Silksong was given a broad release window, that being 2025. While this was a relief to hear, what with the previous announcement being an indefinite delay of the game’s release, not knowing the specifics is keeping fans waiting.

There is some hope, though. Recently, Reddit user TomNook5085 found that an edit had been made to the Xbox page for Hollow Knight: Silksong. While the details of the changes remain unknown, it is theorized that this may be the game’s release date. With the Xbox Games Showcase taking place on June 8, it’s very likely that these edits are in anticipation for this event.

The Xbox page edit hinting at an Xbox Games Showcase reveal would align with a rumor that has been circulating since April about the event. As well as the hotly anticipated Persona 4 remake that there has been speculation about, it is worth having some hope that Hollow Knight: Silksong could feature in 2025’s Xbox Games Showcase. Considering the page edit that was made, it’s possible that fans will finally know the game’s release date on June 8.

In most regions, the Nintendo website does not reveal a date that the game will be released, but on the Japanese site, it is confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will release after June 6, and will not be a launch title for the Switch 2.

This narrows down the release window somewhat. Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable on September 18, 2025, as a museum exhibit in Australia. Knowing this date, players may be able to expect that the Hollow Knight sequel will release within this window. This may seem disheartening, since the wait may still be that much further away, but there is speculation that the actual launch date may still be sooner than expected.

A June Release is Possible

According to one leak, fans may actually be able to play the game very soon. Fitting within this proposed release window, a trusted leaker has revealed that Hollow Knight: Silksong could launch in June. Though there is yet to be any official confirmation of this, other surrounding rumors, such as its potential appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, could point to this as a possibility. Considering that the Xbox Games Showcase will be hosted on 8 June, it would not be impossible for the full game to release on the same day as the presentation. While the Xbox page edit could be the release date, there is also the chance that this is preparation for the game’s launch.

Team Cherry has confirmed that, like with the original game, Kickstarter backers will be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong early, meaning that a surprise release might not be likely. Backers will be notified that they will still be receiving the game early and asked which platform they would prefer to play the game on. Though it is unknown when or how early these players will receive their copy of the game, it is unlikely that these will be sent before the release date is publicly announced.

Even if there is no surprise release, it is still possible for the game to release on June 8. Nintendo is reported to be holding a Nintendo Direct close to the Switch 2 launch. It would be a tight window, but if this is held before the Xbox Games Showcase, the release date of Hollow Knight: Silksong could be announced during the Direct before finally releasing on June 8. This would also give Team Cherry time to send out codes to Kickstarter backers ahead of the official release.

Still, it would make the most sense for either the release date reveal or launch of the full game to be affiliated with Xbox in some way. It seems as though Hollow Knight: Silksong has a marketing partnership with Xbox, so saving the big reveal for the Xbox Games Showcase may be an eventuality.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been highly anticipated for years, and since the recent Nintendo Direct, players are guaranteed to be able to play the game before the end of 2025. However, with the recent leaks and rumors, as well as the edit to the game’s Xbox page, the wait may be over sooner than expected. It might not be long before a specific release date is finally announced, and with the confirmation that it will be a Day One Xbox Game Pass Game, fans of the game may have a good reason to subscribe very soon.
