After a recent leak, it appeared that Hollow Knight: Silksong finally had a release date. The leak came from the Nvidia GeForce Now database, which seemingly included the release date for many titles from an accurate source.
Since Team Cherry has not been very vocal about Hollow Knight: Silksong in a while, the leak caught fans’ interest quickly. After all, they have been waiting for Silksong’s release date for a long time and the Nvidia leak seems to finally be giving them the information they had been waiting for. Even so, there's reason to believe it probably isn't true.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Leaked Release Date
One supposed date that grabbed the attention of many was for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was announced in February 2019, but there has been little more information about Silksong lately. With the lack of news about Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Nvidia GeForce Now leak gave fans hope that Team Cherry’s upcoming game might finally be coming soon, as it stated that Silksong would become available in February 2022 - which seems like a reasonable timeframe to release the game.
Hollow Knight was not the only anticipated game to appear on the list. Other titles including a Final Fantasy 9 Remake were also said to have release dates. Naturally, this information was quick to spread throughout the Internet as many hoped that the information found within Nvidia's servers was true.
In the case of Hollow Knight: Silksong, fans were also encouraged to believe Silksong's release date in the Nvidia leak was real because of fireb0rn. As a prolific Hollow Knight, speedrunner online, fireb0rn is an important figure in the game's community, and one whom many people are quick to look toward.
They released a video soon after the Nvidia leak came out explaining why the supposed release date made sense for Silksong’s release. One of the arguments suggested that Team Cherry both released Hollow Knight and announced Silksong in February. Because of this, it would make sense that Team Cherry released the sequel in February as well.
Why the Leaked Silksong Release Date is Probably False
Team Cherry has been silent for a long time now, and fans have rightfully started to become anxious about the lack of updates. This has even led some to believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong was cancelled. Nevertheless, it seems like Silksong could release soon, as the developing process is likely already far along.
The reason why the Nvidia leak seems unlikely is that it would be a weird strategy for Team Cherry to not reveal Silksong's release date after being pressured by fans to give any form of update. It seems like a more logical step for Team Cherry to confirm the leaked date, or announce the new one if there were one. In any case, it seems more likely that Team Cherry is trying to ensure the game is perfect at the time of release, since expectations are set very high for Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Team Cherry will hopefully announce a date to ease everyone’s worries, if the developer already has one. Perhaps this leak, be it true or false, puts pressure to reveal something sooner rather than later. Right now, it seems fans can only wait for Team Cherry to finally break its silence and release another blog post - or anything really - about Silksong.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in development for PC and Switch.
