Homeworld 3 continues the series' 3D real-time strategy gameplay, with players commanding their fleet and trying to destroy their enemies. Each fleet has many different ships to choose from, with various ships countering others and quickly wiping out larger squads.

The best fleet comprises many different ship types that can counter whatever your enemy throws at you, which requires a lot of resources. While building a Resource Collector is easy, managing and using them throughout a game can be tricky unless you know the right tricks.

Homeworld 3: Beginner Tips & Tricks

Homeworld 3 is a deep real-time strategy game with lots of mechanics to utilize. Here are some tips and tricks for those getting started.

How To Farm Resources in Homeworld 3

The Select Resource Controllers Button Flashing Red

To farm resources, simply select a Resource Collector and right-click on a resource supply. Each resource supply has a limited amount that can be farmed from it before that Resource Collector needs to move on, and this isn't done automatically. After a Resource Collector finishes, players will need to locate another deposit on the map and designate their collector to move and start farming. Building more Resource Collectors will cost a good bit, but can allow for a quicker income as they each farm various deposits simultaneously. Players can also farm resources by salvaging destroyed Capital Ships.

How To Farm Resources Efficiently

The Resource Button Being Selected

As games progress, players will be managing a lot on screen, and while it is a necessity, finding and farming resources can become tedious. Luckily, there are ways to command your Resource Collectors and have them farm without requiring players to take their eyes off battle. Whenever a Resource Collector finishes collecting a deposit, the collector icon in the top right of the screen will flash red to the left of your resource count.

Selecting this icon will select a Resource Collector that is currently idle and open their command menu in the bottom right. Players can also select the Population menu in the top left of the screen to see the "Resource" group and select any Resource Collector to issue them commands, but this would also require the player to check to make sure their current deposit is finished being collected.

Selecting "Resource," the button on the top left of that command menu, hotkeyed to H, will have that collector find, travel to, and start farming the next nearest deposit. This allows players to automate the process a lot but does come with the disadvantage of your collectors possibly going into enemy space to farm. A simple solution is to designate a small team to guard your collectors by right-clicking on the Resource Collector with the guard units currently selected. As the collector moves from deposit to deposit, their guards will follow.
