After almost two years, Honkai: Star Rail has introduced a diverse cast of characters across different worlds in its cosmos. Even many of Honkai: Star Rail's NPCs show a lot of personality through their design and their stories whenever players interact with them.

One NPC that's captured the attention of fans is Screwllum, an Intellitron Genius Society member who was officially introduced way back in Honkai: Star Rail Version 1.1. Since then, many fans have expected Screwllum to be a future playable character, along with his fellow Genius Society colleagues Herta and Ruan Mei. But despite many rumors and leaks, Honkai: Star Rail has yet to debut the character. Screwllum's future is now even more uncertain this year as Honkai: Star Rail may most likely release Amphoreus characters in the next few months.

Honkai: Star Rail's Amphoreus Characters Will Likely Push Back Screwllum's Release Even More

The Amphoreus arc features Greek myth-inspired heroes known as the Chrysos Heirs, who are all believed to be playable throughout the duration of the story. So far, three of them already have confirmed banners: Aglaea, who's coming out in the second half of Version 3.0; Tribbie and Mydei, who are both launching in Version 3.1. The rest of the Chrysos Heirs are expected to follow suit in the next updates, especially since this main story quest is slated to last for at least eight months.

Plus, considering the mysterious and isolated location of Amphoreus, Honkai: Star Rail will likely stick to natives of this planet, and not introduce anyone from existing worlds like it usually does. The story also makes it clear that Trailbblazer and Dan Heng can't contact anyone from the outside world easily. If that's indeed the case, then long-time rumored characters like Screwllum might not become playable anytime soon, despite many fans wishing that he'd finally graduate from being an NPC sometime this year. Meanwhile, many fans are still holding out hope for Screwllum to appear during the Amphoreus story.

What Honkai: Star Rail Leaks Have Revealed About Screwllum So Far

Since his introduction in 2022, many leaks have circulated about Screwllum's possible star level, element, Path, and abilities. According to rumors, it's speculated that he might be an Imaginary-type character following the Path of Erudition, with abilities that could allegedly reduce enemies' resistance to Imaginary damage. Some Honkai: Star Rail leakers also shared Screwllum's supposed in-game animations, mostly his idle movements in the menu. HoYoverse hasn't confirmed all of these yet, so there's still a chance that these details could change in development.

  • Screwllum: Rumored 5-star Imaginary character following the Path of Erudition

This begs the question about Screwllum's release date in Honkai: Star Rail. Previous rumors claimed that he might launch as one of Version 2.7's 5-star characters, but as many know now, this version's banners featured Sunday and Fugue. There have also been fears that Screwllum might just be a permanent NPC, like his colleague Stephen Lloyd, who only appears as a Simulated Universe avatar. But HoYoverse has a habit of making NPCs playable in other games, such as Genshin Impact's Xianyun aka Cloud Retainer.

There might also be a chance for Screwllum to appear in Amphoreus. As mentioned in Honkai: Star Rail's latest cutscenes, Amphoreus is fettered by three Paths, one being Erudition. The Genius Society is a faction that follows the Aeon, Nous The Erudition, and Herta is a powerful Emanator of this Path. This could explain why The Herta is the first 5-star character of Honkai: Star Rail's Amphoreus story. Perhaps Screwllum might find his way into the story in a future update somehow, which could fuel more excitement for a possible spot on Honkai: Star Rail's Warp banner.
