Black Swan is one of the first characters who came together with the big Penacony update in Honkai: Star Rail, offering players a different way to play Nihility-based teams. She drowns enemies in the DoT effects inflicted by herself and her allies, resulting in shockingly high damage numbers every time an opponent begins their turn.

As far as character Ascension materials go, Black Swan can be upgraded using materials farmed from earlier areas of the game. Ascendant Debris will be the most pressing item on the list, and you can get them by farming the Stagnant Shadow at the Alchemy Commission. It is dropped by the Ascended, one of the boss-type enemies in Honkai: Star Rail.

As it happens, Black Swan's basic attack is actually quite strong. It has a 74% base chance of inflicting a stack Arcana, which deals damage based on Black Swan's ATK, and if an enemy is inflicted Wind Shear, Burn, Bleed, or Shock, Black Swan's basic attack has a chance to inflict an additional Arcana stack. This grants her extra synergy with other Nihility characters like Kafka, Guinaifen, and Sampo.

Players will need the same amount of materials to level up Black Swan's Talents, Skill, and Ultimate. If you want to max all of her important abilities, then you'll need to collect all items in this table three times. To get the most out of your Credits and materials investment, upgrade her Ultimate first, followed by her Talent, then Skill.

The rest of Black Swan's passive nodes improve her ATK, Wind DMG, and Effect Hit Rate. Meanwhile, her major Ascension Traces improve the effectiveness of her Arcana and boost her ATK by a percentage of her Effect Hit Rate.
