Updated on January 12, 2025, by Oluwatokiloba Folami: Horimiya has been a constant joy to behold for anime fans because of its emotional and cute love story. The success of the first one was so massive that they could not deny the fans their expectation and released a side story, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, to fill up the gaps in the parent story. This side story also did numbers in the anime industry, with fans being truly appreciative as it dives deeper into the lives of their other favorite characters. Speaking of, these characters have a certain relatability, especially to the Shoujo demographic, despite it being a Shounen anime, which leaves fans wondering about the age and other attributes of their favorites.

19 Motoko Iura

Shuu’s Possessive Younger Sister

Motoko Iura
  • First Appearance: Episode 11

When it comes to looks, they might be the same. But in other aspects, Motoko is nothing like her older brother. While Shuu is gloomy only at home, Motoko is very quiet and gloomy both in the house and in school. Because of this, she has a hard time making friends.

She also acts cold to her brother when they are at home but actually loves him. She relies on and is very possessive of him, often going to his room to sleep whenever she is scared at night. She also likes Kitahara but does not let him know, staying friends with him.

18 Ichirou Watabe

The Male Lead’s Stalker

Ichirou Watabe
  • First Appearance: Episode 13

Just as Honoka Sawada stalks Kyouko, Ichirou Watabe also stalks Izumi Miyamura. He is constantly watching Izumi and is aware of almost everything he does, even things Izumi himself might have forgotten. He takes stalking to a new level, keeping an impressive album of Izumi that no one is aware of.

the-Major
The Best Anime For Gun Nerds

There are plenty of anime with adrenaline-filled gunfights and beautifully designed weaponry, but these anime put extra effort into it.

However, he is not in love with him or anything like that and is just interested in him. Izumi is aware of it and takes no offense to it either, but it is a different case with Kyouko, as she is cautious of him, as she thinks that he might steal Izumi from her.

17 Taiki Mizouchi

Opposing Izumi For His Relationship

Taiki Mizouchi
  • First Appearance: Episode 9

Another character who has a crush on Kyouko, Taiki Muzouchi does not like Izumi. He avoids conversation with Izumi no matter how much he tries to talk to him, often getting pissed at him. This does not deter Izumi, as he always brushes off his reaction and talks to him anyway.

Izumi even tweaks his name in a friendly manner, another gesture that pisses Taiki off. Kyouko is not aware of his crush on her and sees him as a regular classmate. His poor conversation skills combined with Izumi’s show of their relationship completely removed any hope he had of dating her.

16 Chika Ichijou

Kouichi’s Unrelenting Girlfriend

Chika Ichijou
  • First Appearance: Episode 5

Chika Ichijou’s love is genuine as she is willing to stand by Kouichi through thick and thin. She appeared unfazed by the girls who flocked towards him and were giving him gifts on Valentine’s Day. She was also willing to wait a year for him to finish school as he had to repeat another year.

Even when he picked up smoking, she tried to get him over it with the aid of Miyamura by making him eat cheese, albeit forcefully. Her parents disapprove of their relationship as they consider Kouichi to be a failure, but she stays with him regardless.

15 Kyousuke Hori

An Absent Father

Kyousuke Hori
  • First Appearance: Episode 5

Kyouko’s father has never been the most present; however, that doesn’t make him unfit to be called one, as Kyouko might think. Kyouko has been seen to act violently towards her father when he's around. Most of Kyouko’s violence comes from "crazy domestic violence habits," as termed by Kyousuke, and they seem to be normalized within the family.

While Kyouko describes her father as egocentric and aggressive, fans hardly witness that side of him. When Miyamura is around, Kyousuke receives him with open arms and likes to converse with him, as he deems him an interesting individual. Moreover, on seeing Miyamura, Kyousuke’s mood tends to go from 0 -100.

14 Koichi Shindo

A Supportive Best Friend

Koichi Shindo
  • First Appearance: Episode 4

Right from the very beginning, Koichi has always been an upbeat person who does what he wants. In Junior High School, many avoided Miyamura due to his outlook and various stereotypes; however, even then, Koichi thought he was an interesting person, and they became best friends. Whether it be now or in the past, Koichi has always stood up for Miyamura regardless of how he dressed.

Unfortunately, Koichi isn’t the best academically, but he doesn’t let that define him, as he still goes about and does his own thing rather than feeling worthless. With his girlfriend, Chika Ichijou, Koichi tries to get rid of his bad habits, such as smoking and tries to put in more effort so her parents can recognize him.

13 Makio Tanihara

A Mischievous Bully Who Seeks Redemption

Makio_Tanihara
  • First Appearance: Episode 4

Standing at 5'6, Tanihara Makio has a long history of bullying Izumi Miyamura. In Junior High, Tanihara, for no credible reason, simply disliked Izumi Miyamura. Moreover, as someone who loves to fit in, Tanihara tried to ‘protect’ Koichi Shindo when he began moving with Miyamura because he was afraid Koichi would begin to stand out in a negative light. However, this didn’t work out, as Koichi found Miyamura interesting.

As no one is undeserving of redemption, by High school, Makio decided to seek Miyamura’s forgiveness for bullying him through Junior High. Although crude and forceful, Makio's intent on repenting from his bullying tendencies showed a unique side that fans found intriguing.

12 Yuriko Hori

A Caring Mother

Yuriko Hori
  • First Appearance: Episode 2

The mother of Kyouko Hori, Yuriko, is a beautiful young woman who is usually busy with her work. Because of that, Hori often takes care of her brother, Souto. Kyosuke, Yuriko’s husband, noted that she looked very much like their daughter while she was in high school.

As a mother of two, Yuriko is calm, gentle, and takes her work seriously. Although she could be lazy in the kitchen, leaving Hori to do most of the cooking, Yuriko is very protective of her daughter and has a very amicable relationship with her.

11 Souta Hori

An Inquisitive Younger Brother To Kyouko

Souta Hori excited

At the beginning of the Horimiya anime series, Miyamura finds Souta startled by a dog, which prompts him to deliver the young boy home. During their short meeting, the duo bonded, and Souta has respected Miyamura ever since, seeing him as akin to an elder brother.

Despite his age, Souta is obedient and perceptive. He easily notices Miyamura and Hori’s feelings for each other before the duo figure out their own emotions.

10 Remi Ayasaki

Charming, But Often Forgetful

Remi Ayasaki surprised look
  • First Appearance: Episode 2

As a member of the student council at Katagiri Senior High School, Remi Ayasaki is quite the character. She is the girlfriend of Kakeru Sengoku, whom she began dating in her freshman year. And the duo’s relationship has continued ever since.

Remi is close friends with Hori, with whom she regularly talks about her boyfriend. As a major character in the series, Remi tends to talk about her relationship with her boyfriend Hori, and Hori does the same. Unlike most girls, Remi loves insects and has a straightforward personality.
