Sony has pulled Horizon Zero Dawn from the Epic Games Store, meaning the original 2017 action-adventure game is no longer available to purchase on the storefront. While this might seem like an odd decision by Sony, the studio has likely delisted Horizon Zero Dawn to make way for the upcoming remaster, which is scheduled to release on October 31.

Shortly after Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was leaked via an age rating from the ESRB, Guerrilla Games and Sony confirmed the title's existence at a State of Play event. Guerrilla's Studio Director says the remaster will feature "a host" of technological improvements, visual enhancements, and upgraded features. The aim of the remaster is to bring the 2017 game in line with its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, with 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue, countless graphical improvements, upgraded character models, and much more.

Although Sony did sneakily double the price of Horizon Zero Dawn after the remaster was announced, it does allow existing owners to upgrade to the remaster for just $9.99, while new players will need to purchase the remaster for $49.99. In what is likely an attempt to prevent users from purchasing the original game and spending more to upgrade, Sony has delisted Horizon Zero Dawn from the Epic Games Store. Now, when a user visits the store page, the game is simply marked as unavailable. According to PCGamesN, the game has been delisted for approximately one week at the time of writing this article.

Sony Pulls Horizon Zero Dawn From Epic Games Store

Horizon Zero Dawn can still be purchased on Steam, but it's currently the same price as the upcoming remaster, meaning it'll cost more to upgrade in the future. Whether or not Sony also intends to delist the title from other storefronts, such as Steam and GOG, is currently unknown. The first game in the Horizon series didn't make its way to PC until 2020, and while it did include higher framerates than its PlayStation 4 counterpart, it offered no graphical improvements.

Its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, made its way to PC earlier this year after its launch on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. While both games were received positively by the community, many of Sony's other PC ports haven't gone down too well with the community. After Helldivers 2 sparked controversy back in May, many of PlayStation's recent PC releases, such as God of War: Ragnarok and Ghost of Tsushima, have required users to link their Steam account with a PSN account. Although Sony backpedaled on the requirement for Helldivers 2, the studio continues to receive backlash for the requirement with each new release.
