Game Of Thrones & House Of The Dragon: 5 Best Warriors Shown On-Screen
There are plenty of fighters in the Game of Thrones universe, but these warriors are some of the best the Known World has ever seen.
With Rhaenyra's crown being usurped, the queen has organized a stronghold at Dragonstone, where she hopes to win the Dance of Dragons through her armies and resources. Rhaenyra's team features several different dragonriders, each with unique traits that make them fierce warriors when controlling their respective dragons.
7 Ulf
From Tavern Regular To Controlling A Dragon
- Debut: Season 2, Episode 2: "Rhaenyra the Cruel"
Ulf's ascension to becoming a dragonrider for Silverwing sees the lowborn commoner of King's Landing rise from nothing to a valued member of Rhaenyra's task force. Claiming a dragon through his Targaryen heritage, Ulf is set to become a significant player in the Dance of Dragons, with Silverwing being a menacing dragon.
Despite Ulf's lack of experience, the character is able to survive the ride that Silverwing takes him on when the pair head to King's Landing, with Ulf returning to his home city as an important power player in the war.
6 Hugh Hammer
A Family Man With A Point To Prove
- Debut: Season 2, Episode 1: "A Son for a Son"
Introduced in Season 2, Hugh Hammer's rise sees the character go from a struggling citizen of King's Landing to becoming the dragonrider of Vermithor in just a few episodes. Hugh's care for his family gives the blacksmith the determination and bravery needed to claim Vermithor at Dragonstone, becoming a valuable asset to Rhaenyra in the process.
As one of Rhaenyra's dragonriders, Hugh has a warrior mentality that perfectly matches Vermithor, a fierce dragon only second in size to Vhagar in House of the Dragon.
5 Addam
The Bastard Son Of Corlys Velaryon Who Flies With Ease
- Debut: Season 2, Episode 2: "Rhaenyra the Cruel"
As one of Corlys Velaryon's bastard sons, Addam has lived in secrecy with his brother, Alan, working for House Velaryon. Despite Corlys having respect for Alan and his exploits, Corlys forgets Addam, with his achievements and existence not being of note to the Seasnake.
While working, a wild Seasmoke seeks out Addam to be his dragonrider, elevating Addam's status in Westeros. Addam's lack of experience as a dragonrider does not hinder the shipwright, as he is able to fly to Dragonstone on Seasmoke with ease after receiving commands from Rhaenyra, further showcasing his competency.
4 Rhaenyra Targaryen
The Rightful Heir To The Throne Who Often Wishes To Go Into Combat Herself
- Debut: Season 1, Episode 1: "The Heirs of the Dragon"
Growing up as a princess and heir to the throne, Rhaenyra was never taught the ways of war or combat despite having a dragon. Rhaenyra and her dragon Syrax have been bonded since Rhaenyra's childhood, with her knowledge of the Valyrian language allowing the two to have a deep connection.
As ruler at Dragonstone, Rhaenyra is pleaded with to stay put whenever warfare is underway. However, she is keen to fight with Syrax, particularly when Criston Cole and his army march on Rook's Rest, with the queen being eager to showcase her capabilities in battle.
3 Jacaerys Targaryen
The Proud Rider Of Vermax
- Debut: Season 1, Episode 6: "The Princess and the Queen"
In House of the Dragon, Jacaerys Targaryen has emerged as a critical figure in Rhaenyra's council, with the prince fighting for his mother's claim to the throne. Jacaerys and his dragon Vermax have been together since Jace was a child, and their bond is strong.
As a prince, Jacaerys rides Vermax throughout the Seven Kingdoms, with the pair even going as far as The Wall and the Eyrie to help Rhaenyra's cause. Despite lacking combat experience on Vermax, Jacaerys' bond and flight experience with the dragon make him a competent rider in Rhaenyra's army.
2 Baela Targaryen
Daemon Targaryen's Daughter Who Serves As A Watchdog For The Queen
- Debut: Season 1, Episode 6: "The Princess and the Queen"
Being the daughter of Daemon Targaryen, Baela Targaryen often has to rely on herself, with her disillusioned father leaving her and her sister, Rhaena Targaryen, to fend for themselves. Riding the dragon Moondancer, Baela is used as a scout, with the two often scouring the areas near Dragonstone for enemy attacks.
8 Things Game Of Thrones Does Better Than House Of The Dragon
House of the Dragon has saved the reputation of Game of Thrones after it's disastrous finale, but there are some things the first show just did better
Baela's surveying of the skies almost led to her killing the Hand of the King, Cole, and Gwayne Hightower. Her bold attempt to assassinate key personnel of Aegon's council and army on the back of Moondancer proves just how great of an asset she is for Rhaenyra.
1 Daemon Targaryen
A Chaotic Warrior With Plenty Of Experience Riding Caraxes
- Debut: Season 1, Episode 1: "The Heirs of the Dragon"
The Prince Consort Daemon has been regarded as a ferocious warrior in his time in Westeros, and his dragon, Caraxes, is the cherry on top. In Daemon's exploits, the character has been involved in battles such as the War for the Stepstones, where the Prince Consort and Caraxes take down Craghas Drahar and the Triarchy's forces with the help of House Velaryon.
Despite Daemon becoming disillusioned and paranoid at Harrenhal, Daemon still proves a significant threat to anyone who crosses him. On top of that, he is easily the most experienced dragonrider in all of Westeros.
