The Continent in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has all sorts of things for players to find to make their party stronger. A lot of gear and Pictos are either found lying around or dropped by stronger enemies throughout each area. Thanks to mastering Pictos and making them Lumina, it's always a good idea to pick up every Picto and master it to at least have the Lumina option later on.
There are some items that can be harder to come across, and those are usually hidden in Paint Spikes. Paint Spikes are those large rocks with blue lines throughout them, that usually stand out no matter what area you find one in. Here's how to get the skill Paint Break and break Paint Spikes.

How To Get Paint Break In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
To break a Paint Spike, you'll first need to get the skill Paint Break, which is a reward for finding four Lost Gestrals. Lost Gestrals are found throughout the continent, and talking to them will have them return to Sastro in your camp. After finding and returning four Lost Gestrals, return to Sastro to get the skill Paint Break. By the time you reach Act 2 and get the Esquie ability to swim through Corals, you'll easily be able to find enough Lost Gestrals to get this skill.
Where To Find Sastro
Sastro is found anytime in your camp, which you can return to anytime while in the overworld. Once in your camp, head past Esquie to the path to the left of the one leading to the Curator. Follow the path between the rocks, and once you see some wooden crates and a white sheet, take a left. Sastro will be directly ahead. Simply talk to Sastro after returning Lost Gestrals, and he'll give you a reward for each one you do find.

How To Use Paint Break In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Once you get the Paint Break skill, it simply augments your basic attack outside of combat. To destroy a blue rock, get it within range of your basic attack and use it. The rock will break, and usually right at the center of where it was will usually be a rare item. Paint Spikes are found in just about every major area of the game, so after getting this skill, it's highly recommended you return to earlier areas and destroy any Paint Spikes to get gear or Pictos usually stronger than those found in that area.
