Solar subclasses in Destiny 2 are all about buffing allies and burning enemies, and if you want to lean heavily into the latter, there are quite a few ways for you to do so. The Burning Ambition weapon perk is one of them, and it's great if you just want to sit back, relax, and watch the world burn.
Burning Ambition was introduced alongside the release of The Edge of Fate, and it's already proving to be quite the useful tool for Solar builds in Destiny 2. In this guide, we'll be going over how this perk works and how you can best take advantage of it.

Destiny 2: Burning Ambition Perk Effect
Burning Ambition is a weapon perk that lets players inflict Scorch on their targets after dealing enough sustained damage to them. If the target is already Scorched, the perk will continue to add Scorch stacks to them, further increasing the damage they take over time to the flames.
This perk can be found on a handful of Solar weapons as of the launch of Edge of Fate, and one of the weapons that's the most accessible to players is the Ahab Char Auto Rifle. This weapon can drop from Portal activities, which means even players who don't own any of the game's expansions can get it. Other options include:
- Stars in Shadow (Pulse Rifle)
- Pre Astyanax IV (Bow)
- Returned Memory (Sidearm)
- Unwavering Duty (Machine Gun)
- Agape (Hand Cannon - Edge of Fate)
Trigger Condition
The number of hits it takes before Burning Ambition triggers depends on your weapon and its magazine size. So far, we've tested this with an Agape Hand Cannon on CARL at the Tower's Shooting Range. The results are as following:
- An Agape with a mag size of 18 triggers Burning Ambition on its sixth burst (12 hits).
- Increasing the Agape's mag size to 24 also increases the number of hits it takes to trigger Burning Ambition to eight bursts (16 hits).
- Weakspot hits do not make Burning Ambition trigger more quickly.
- An Incendiary Grenade plus Burning Ambition is enough to trigger an Ignition without Ember of Ashes.
- Hammer Strike with a Burning Ambition proc will trigger an Ignition without Ember of Ashes.
- Landing all 18 bullets from an Agape will trigger an Ignition of the target is primed by a Firebolt Grenade with Ember of Ashes.
- Agape with Burning Ambition will eventually trigger an Ignition if you continuously shoot a target with it.
- Each hit with a Burning Ambition weapon increases the target's Scorch stacks if it is already Scorched.
Recommendation
We recommend using Burning Ambition as a means of triggering Ignition. Apply Scorch on a target using your abilities or other weapons, then blow them up with Burning Ambition. Not only would this do good damage against Majors or Bosses, but it will clear any adds that might be near them. Additionally, if you have Ember of Char, you can potentially start a chain reaction of Ignitions of there are enough enemies.
When playing in a team, weapons like Tommy's Matchbook with its catalyst can serve as an excellent primer for weapons with Burning Ambition. The team's weapons will feed off the Scorch they inflict, causing back-to-back Ignitions on tanky targets.
