Helldivers 2 has all sorts of various enemy types to kill within each of the three factions. The Terminid are bug-like creatures that have all sorts of breeds despite mutating from the same spores, and the sizes of these bugs can greatly range from a lowly soldier to a Bile Titan.
For a long time, the Bile Titan was the biggest bug players would face, that is, until to introduction of the Hive Lord. The Hive Lord is the biggest Terminid there is, being a massive worm-like creature that burrows in the sand but also towers over everything on a planet when it does pop out. Here's how to find and kill one.

Here are all of the Warbonds in Helldivers 2, ranked according to practicality to help players figure out which ones to get first.
How to Find Hive Lords in Helldivers 2
Hive Lords have a chance of randomly spawning on the Termanid hive world, heavily affected by the Gloom. So far, we've been able to confirm that they spawn as low as Difficulty 7, with their overall spawn rates increasing as you up the difficulty of an operation. Once in an operation, you'll want to find huge open patches of dirt, far from water and nearby caves. There's no way to guarantee a spawn, but here are some signs that your current operation has a chance of spawning a Hive Lord.
- Bile Titans spawn in the operation.
- Red smoke grenades are found on the ground, usually marking the spawn point of the Hive Lord.
Helldivers 2: Best Weapons to Use Against the Dragonroach
With the launch of Helldivers 2's major update, Into the Unjust, the Dragonroach enemy has taken to the skies for the Terminid faction.
Can You Kill Hive Lords in Helldivers 2?
Yes, Hive Lords can be killed, but it's incredibly difficult to do. Hive Lords have 150,000 health, and to give perspective, a Portable Hellbomb only deals 10,000 damage. If you want to take down a Hive Lord, you'll want to bring the following strategems to even stand a chance:
-
Eagle 500Kg Bomb
- Portable Hellbomb
-
Orbital Laser
-
Orbital Railcannon Strike
-
Exo-45 Patriot Exosuit
-
E/MG-101 Hmg Emplacement
-
EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank
-
ML5-4X Commando
-
RS-422 Railgun
To kill a Hive Lord, you'll just about always need a full part of four Helldivers. While all of the strategmes work well against armor, you'll still want to do your best and aim for the gaps in its armor. Its outer shell is incredibly tough, but every piece of armor has a gap before the next one to keep the creature flexible. Aim for the gaps, especially if you aren't shooting an anti-tank weapon.
Its mouth is also a weak point, though if the mouth is visible, be sure to stay far away from its burning breath attack, which can deal an incredible amount of damage. Hive Lords will also move around a lot during a fight, moving underground from one location to another. Have one Helldiver worry about smaller Terminids to make sure you don't get overrun, while the other three worry about taking out the Hive Lord.
You'll need a lot of time and coordination to stand a chance in this fight, with the end result having luck as a decent factor in winning. Be sure to stand far away from where it burrows, as it will launch you high up in the air when it comes out, higher than a fall you can survive.
