Some materials are naturally stronger and have better durability than others in Grounded 2. While it's always better to have some armor than no armor, you'll want to find the best materials possible to craft more powerful gear to be able to take on the stronger enemies found in later sections of the park, even if you're playing with friends.

Acorns are a returning material from the first game, and can be used to craft some pretty strong armor and other useful things. While they aren't the easiest material to get right off the bat, you can go anywhere in the park you want, making it possible to find them if you know where to go.

Where to get Acorns in Grounded 2

If you're just starting a new world, you won't easily be able to go anywhere and get the harder-to-reach acorns. That being said, it is fairly easy to find two acorns right away by checking the area above the first Ranger Station you visit during the story. When facing the upper cave entrance to the station, head into the grass to the right to find the two acorns; just know they are being guarded by weak spiders, but still bring some healing materials. You can continue south to find more under the southern tree of the park, though this one spawns less than the other tree.

You'll need the Omni-Tool Hammer 1 upgrade to be able to break acorns.

The northern Pine Hill area offers the best place to find acorns, though this area is harder to traverse early in the game. Orb Weaver Jr spiders litter the area, and they will make short work of you if you don't have any armor and a strong weapon, no matter the difficulty. While you can outrun them by sprinting, you'll eventually need to stop to actually harvest the acorns you find. As long as you are under either tree, look around on the ground, and you'll find a good amount of acorns that have fallen. Acorns do respawn after a few in-game days, so go to each tree every third day or so to get as many acorns as you can carry.

What are Acorns Used for in Grounded 2?

Acorns can be broken to drop the following items:

  • Acorn Shells
  • Acorn Tops
  • Acorn Bits

Acorn Shells are key materials in crafting the chest and legs of the Acorn armor set, while Acorn tops are also needed to craft the Acorn Face Mask. The Sturdy Shell is a trinket also crafted from Acorn Shells, which boosts your Friendly Fire resistance and Major Threat resistance. Acorn pieces can also be used for all sorts of other things, such as chests, sap catchers, and fences, but it's highly recommended you use your first few acorns to make strong armor.
