The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom adds to the already massive map from the first game, leaving a huge world for players to explore. While there are many methods for getting around, getting and taming a horse is one of the easiest and most reliable methods for travel.

Getting a horse can be done very early into the game, with the only restriction being that players will need to first find a stable to register a horse at. Registering a horse is also a cheap process, letting players take advantage of stables and use a horse right away if they want.

How To Get A Horse In Tears Of The Kingdom

To make getting and registering a horse easy, it's best to first find a nearby stable. Stables are marked with the horse icon on the map, and they can easily be spotted using Skyview towers to mark them on the map. Once you find a stable, search nearby fields and plains to find a wild horse. Enemy horses can also be tamed after their rider is taken out, but finding wild ones is usually the easier overall option.

Once you've found a horse you want, approach it using either speed or stealth. The speed approach of sprinting straight at it is far less reliable, and will often lead to you getting kicked, but can still lead to positive results if you're fast enough. With either method, press A once you get close to mount the horse and start to try and tame it.

Continue to press L to slow down and soothe the horse. Every few times you soothe the horse, hearts will appear around the horse, showing that it is starting to bond with you. As the bond gets stronger, the horse will be less likely to buck you off and can be ridden back to the nearest stable to be registered.

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - Best Things To Do Other Than The Main Story

There are so many fun things to do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that don't involve the already brilliant main story.

How To Register A Horse In Tears Of The Kingdom

Once you have ridden your horse back to the nearest stable, approach the person at the front window on horseback and press ZL + A to talk to them. You'll then get the choice to view the horses' stats and register them if you want. The stats for a horse are mostly determined by stars and include the following:

  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Stamina
  • Pull
  • Temperament
  • Bond

For a small Rupee cost, you can register that horse and have it permanently available whenever you visit any stable. From this same stable hand in the window, you can choose to take out a horse and have it as your active horse, or board your currently active horse to store it for later use. Your horses are boarded in all stables simultaneously, letting you pull a boarded horse out from any stable anywhere.

Horses can be taken out and boarded as often as you'd like without any penalty. Press the down arrow on the directional pad anywhere to summon your currently active horse. Should you leave it somewhere, it can be summoned with your whistle from anywhere, making horses very efficient to use no matter the situation.
