Crafting better items and gear in Grounded 2 requires you to find and kill bigger and badder bugs to get high-end materials. While most of these bigger bugs offer a more challenging fight, some are simply harder to find, and those bugs can give just as good of a reward.
Spine Nubs are a fairly rare material that players won't come across naturally while walking around on the park's ground. While it does require you to find and kill a specific bug, it's not as much about how difficult the bug is to kill, but instead how difficult it is to find and get to the bug. Here's how to get Spine Nubs in Grounded 2.
Where to Find Caterpillars in Grounded 2
Spine Nubs are a fairly common material dropped from Caterpillars, though they aren't the most populous bug in the park, nor the hardest to kill. Caterpillars are usually found on large leaves of plants that are too big and tall to cut down, and the leaves they are sitting on usually make them impossible to see from the ground when looking up. Their bright green color and yellow, green, and red bulbs can make them easier to spot, but you'll usually need a higher vantage point to see exactly where they are.
There are a few set locations to find caterpillars early on that aren't that difficult to reach.
- The first one is in the bottom right corner of the Snackbar, on top of the plant, right next to the wooden stairs on the ground. Climb on top of the wood and look back to where the caterpillar is, jumping over to the nearest leaf, then to the one the caterpillar is on.
- Another can be found southwest of the first one, though this one is high up on a standalone plant that will require you to build to in order to reach it.
- Another is found in the roots of the large tree in the southwestern corner of the map that also spawns a lot of acorns, seen directly ahead when coming from the north.
Where to Get Thistle Needles in Grounded 2
Thistle Needles are an important item needed to craft arrows in Grounded 2 and can be found in abundance if you know where to look.
How to Reach High-Up Caterpillars in Grounded 2
A lot of the time, finding the Caterpillar is only the first hurdle in harvesting one. Sometimes, there will be enough things for you to climb up and jump to the caterpillar, though be mindful of the height and fall damage if you miss a jump. If you can't jump to the caterpillar's location, the next option is to build a staircase. After getting the base upgrade at the Science Station, you'll be able to craft a staircase using the following materials:
- Grass Plank - 4
- Weed Stem - 1
You will need to build a few staircases, so it's sometimes easier to kill an easy-to-reach caterpillar and wait for it to respawn a few days later.
