Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 brings Mario's pair of galactic platforming adventures to the Switch 2. With a fresh lick of paint, improved soundtrack, UI, extra Storybook Chapters, and a new Assist Mode, this collection offers the definitive way to play both games. While both games were released during the Wii era (where file sizes were typically a lot smaller than they are now), they're still fairly lengthy adventures and, depending on how much of a completionist you are, can take some serious time to finish. Here's how long it'll take you to beat Super Mario Galaxy 1 + Super Mario Galaxy 2.

How Long Does Super Mario Galaxy Take to Beat?

Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 day-one patch

Super Mario Galaxy will take you around 12-14 hours to complete if you're just focusing on working through the main story and only getting the required Power Stars to unlock the next area. This will still see you experiencing the majority of what Super Mario Galaxy has to offer, but you might miss out on some secrets. This includes a certain secret world that's only unlocked once you've got all 120 Power Stars in the main part of the game.

For those looking to 100% Super Mario Galaxy, you're looking at closer to 30-40 hours to beat. As is the case with any completionist time estimates, the amount of time it takes you to beat is going to come down to your skill level and if you use any sort of guide or walkthrough to track down any collectible or help you solve hidden puzzles or objectives you might otherwise have taken hours to spot on your own. If you've played some of the other best 3D Mario games, you might have a bit of an advantage.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 continues on Mario's planet-hopping adventure, and will also take around 13-21 hours to complete if you're not going for the 100% completionist route. That variation in the hours comes down to whether you purely focus on beating the main story, or decide to enjoy some of the side content, such as finding more of the Power Stars than you need to beat the game, which is just 70.

Much like its predecessor, Super Mario Galaxy 2 takes around 35 hours to 100% complete. This will require you to find another 242 Power Stars across its six main worlds. As is the case with the first game, there is also a seventh world for players to unlock with more levels to complete.

These are, of course, completion times for normal players. A speedrunner set a record of 2h 54m 51.33s for an "Any% with Bank run."
