Making a pass in College Football 26 can be pretty tricky if your opponent's coverage on your receivers is strong and they're rushing your QB. In those instances, you might be flushed out of the pocket and have to think on the fly. One of the best moves to have in your passing arsenal is the pump fake, allowing you to trick the defense into thinking you're throwing in one direction before sending the ball flying through the air to a receiver on the other side of the pitch. In this guide, I'll explain how to pump fake in College Football 26 and how to use it effectively to help you get those all-important touchdowns.

How to Perform a Pump Fake in College Football 26

To Pump Fake in College Football 26, you need to double-tap the button of the wide receiver that you want to fake the pass to. In other words, if the receiver on the left side of the field is assigned to the Y/ Triangle button on your controller, double tap that button. This will cause your QB to make a throwing motion in their direction without releasing the ball.

This can then buy you some more time on the ball, and will hopefully shift the defense over to that side of the field, potentially freeing up another one of your receivers for a safe pass.

Tips to Effectively Pump Fake

There are a few things to keep in mind when performing a Pump Fake to ensure that it works as intended:

  • Make sure that your QB has plenty of space. If a defender is already blitzing you, you're going to find yourself sacked by the time the Pump Fake animation has finished.
  • Pump Fakes typically work better when playing against a human opponent. CPU opponents don't typically fall for it (especially on higher difficulty settings), meaning you're just giving them more time to close the distance and land a tackle on your QB.
  • It works best when faking to a receiver on one side of the pitch before throwing to a receiver in a completely different area of the field. This is because the defense will have shifted over to the side of the field you originally faked to, opening up more space on the opposite side.
  • You can also use a Pump Fake to quickly stop throwing to a wide receiver that is no longer open, saving yourself from a costly interception or incomplete pass.

Making good use of the Pump Fake can make your offensive plays less predictable and opens the door for more diverse approaches to passing plays.

If you prefer to run the ball, you can always use the QB slide to help you get that extra yardage for the first down.
