Elder Scrolls Online opens up a lot of Tamriel for players to explore. Depending on the race of the character you choose, you'll have a different starting position in your alliance's territory. While the PVP-focused war between the alliances makes it seem like some regions are off limits, players have the freedom to go wherever they want in any region.
While the freedom to explore is there, some areas are harder to reach than others, and your starting point will be a major deciding factor in how to get to a specific region. Alik'r Desert may seem like an easy region to get to, though no roads lead directly to the region. There are only a few ways to get to Alik'r Desert; here's how.

Subclassing allows characters of any class to learn and use class skill lines of any other class; here's how to unlock and use subclassing.
How to Reach Alik'r Desert in Elder Scrolls Online
The only way to reach Alik'r Desert is to sail there. While it is connected to the mainland of Tamriel, no roads directly lead to the region, and roads offer the only ability to move between regions while on foot. Sailing does require you to go to a specific location to sail from one city to the next, as all ships have set locations they sail between.
Sailing is free, no matter where you're going.
Alik'r Desert only has one port going in and out, though there are multiple navigators that sail here, giving you a few options based on where you can easily get to. The following ports have ships that go to Alik'r Desert:
- Summerset
- Vivec City - Vvardenfell
- Seyda Neen - Vvardenfell
- Wayrest - High Rock
If you already have access to any of the cities or regions listed above, simply head to the port and find the navigator taking you to Alik'r Desert. While some of these regions are easier to get to than others, Wayrest may be your best bet if you don't have any of them currently unlocked.
You can reach Wayrest's dock by sailing there from the Western Skyrim Docks, by talking to Ilfete. Skyrim has a shrine that is unlocked as soon as players start a new character, so even if you're brand new or just don't have a lot of regions unlocked, your path to Alik'r Desert only takes a short walk.
Depending on your Alliance, sailing to Alik'r Desert may require you to say you want to travel outside of your Alliance, though there is no risk to this.
