Outside of towns or set locations, Path of Exile 2's areas are randomly generated and called instances. Instances help make everything feel new and unique, as you're never walking through the same area twice for longer than just a few minutes. With or without enemies in an instance being killed, it can take a while to explore everything and find the path to the next region.
While players can later get a mount that helps traversal be a bit faster, early in the game, players will need to rely on sprinting. Sprinting can be done at any time by any character, though there isn't a designated sprint button; here's how to do it.

How to Sprint in Path of Exile 2
Sprinting can be done at any time by holding down the dodge button after your character finishes the dodge animation. While a new character defaults the dodge button to your hot bar, it is a movable skill that can be assigned to any button you want, so it may be different for every player.
Sprinting does require you to have the dodge button equipped, though every character needs to dodge, so this won't be messing with anyone's hotbar too much. By holding down the dodge button after the animation, your character will start sprinting in the direction they dodged in, with there being no resource used when sprinting, letting you sprint for as long as you'd like.

How Does Sprinting Work in Path of Exile 2
While your character can sprint indefinitely, they aren't the best at turning. Sprinting is best used when running in a straight line or in an area without many obstacles. While turning is possible with small adjustments, your character's turning is much less responsive than when just jogging at the usual speed. Failing to turn or just running until you're stopped will have your character sprint right into things, and when this happens, they will be stunned for a brief second before they can properly move again.
Dodging can be used to break an animation, with you being able to sprint out of a dodge, making it perfect for escaping a bad situation. You can attack out of a sprint, but all this does is break the sprint animation and have you go into your normal attack or spell animation without anything unique happening. Sprinting is great for running across large instances fast, but it won't work the best in combat aside from running away.
