Elder Scrolls Online allows characters of any class to subclass into other skill lines. This system gives characters almost total freedom to learn whatever skills they want, eventually fully unlocking them to use whenever, as if they were skills from their original class.
Unlocking the subclassing system does require players to find a specific NPC and complete their side quest, along with one restriction to even start that quest in the first place. Here's everything you need to know about unlocking subclassing, along with how to use it to permanently unlock any skill line you want, making powerful DPS builds even stronger.
Elder Scrolls Online: Best Tips To Earn Champion Points Fast
For those keen players looking to gain quick Champion Points quickly in Elder Scrolls Online then here are some top-tier tips.
Where to Find Bahtra at-Hunding (A Study in Discipline) in Elder Scrolls Online
You won't be able to start A Study in Discipline and unlock subclassing until one character on your account has reached level 50.
After getting one character to level 50, any character you create on that same account will be able to subclass. First, you'll need to find Bahtra at-Hunding, who appears in three different locations:
- Riften in The Rift - just to the west of the main waypoint where you can fast-travel to.
- Dune in Reaper's March - under the bridge next to the waypoint.
- Evermore in Bangkorai - in the town before the dungeon in the top right of the region.
Talking with her will start the quest to unlock subclassing, and the rest of the quest is fairly straightforward from there. She will first ask you what class you are interested in subclassing into, but this won't make any decisions, as subclassing is actually done in the following menu.

How Does Subclassing Work in Elder Scrolls Online
When talking to Bahtra at-Hunding, you'll be able to choose one skill line from any two classes other than your starting one to start subclassing. This will give you full access to that skill line, and also lock you into it until it reaches level 50. Skills in a subclassed skill line cost 2 skill points to unlock instead of one, and XP earned for that skill line is much slower than your primary class skills.
Once a skill line reaches level 50, it becomes Mastered, and you can forever use it interchangeably with that character just like one of your primary skill lines. You can then also replace that skill line with another to work on mastering more. If you're willing to put the time and effort into it, this system can allow a single character to learn any skill in the game, letting you mix and match anything you can imagine.
