The following article contains spoilers for Takopi's Original Sin.

Among the new releases of the 2025 Summer Anime Season, there is a series that has started catching a lot of attention from its first episode. Takopi's Original Sin has already finished airing, but it is definitely one of the best surprises this year and a good candidate to sweep a few awards in the next Anime Awards.

The anime had such a great premiere that it even surpassed Solo Leveling, and every new episode seemed to break a new record. But how could this new release be as strong as a big hit, at least in a sense?

Why You Should Watch Takopi's Original Sin

Even though Takopi's Original Sin is a relatively short manga, it is full of great plot twists. The first chapter starts with Takopi, an alien from the Happy Planet, and Shizuka Kuze meeting for, apparently, the first time. However, Shizuka is a victim of bullying at school and has a miserable life at home, and that leads her to commit suicide shortly after their first meeting. Since Takopi doesn't understand feelings like sadness and pain, it goes back in time to bring joy to Shizuka's life and prevent her from meeting the same fate.

Shizuka, l'm sorry. I know I'm very useless-pi, but I'll continue to help you from now on-pi. I'll definitely make sure you don’t die.

— Takopi

As the story advances, we learn that Takopi and Shizuka had actually met earlier than we thought, and the reason why Takopi went after Shizuka in chapter 1 was very different from what was expected, and that Shizuka is not as "innocent" as she looks. In any case, the plot is pretty emotional and intense, and the characters, with all their faults and sufferings, feel real, so fans can easily be sympathetic to them.

How Has Takopi Surpassed Solo Leveling (in a Sense)?

Solo Leveling is one of the biggest hits of the past few years, such a phenomenon that it is hard to believe that another anime will become as successful in the near future. Still, this does not mean that it is impossible to compare the new series to Solo Leveling. Takopi's Original Sin hasn't become as big as Solo Leveling, but it gathered more attention than expected. Either way, while Takopi's Original Sin hasn't amassed as many fans as Solo Leveling, it did something that even Solo Leveling wasn't able to: get a 9.8 rating for its first episode (not even Solo Leveling Season 2 did it in its first week). Additionally, after every new episode, the series maintained a high rating for each, which is very rare to happen with a premiere.

While this is huge, making Takopi the best-rated anime premiere of 2025, it is important to note that the more niche a series is, the more likely it is to get high ratings. If only those who like the series are watching it, and there are only a few fans, the average rating will tend to be higher, because what makes an average rating fall will be the bad ratings that those who don't enjoy the series that much will give it. Nonetheless, it is very rare for anime that have a smaller audience than Takopi to have such high rates, especially because most people tend to give their honest opinions, and it is rare for them to rate something this high. Additionally, Takopi's fanbase may be smaller than Solo Leveling's, but it's a big fanbase now.

Therefore, a 9.8 rating for the first episode suggests that it was indeed considered over-the-top by most viewers. Unfortunately, as soon as the anime gained attention for its great ratings, it started to be massively review-bombed with 1.0 ratings, and some have accused Solo Leveling fans of doing this.

When Will Takopi's Original Sin Conclude?

The anime ended on August 1, 2025 (Friday), and the final episode is currently rated at 9.5 on IMDB. The entire series' rating is 9.2, and over 11,000 users rated the series, which is a strong result for a premiere. If the series had more episodes, it would probably gain even more momentum, and perhaps it could eventually become an unprecedented hit. Nonetheless, the ratings might change a bit as more people finish watching the anime.

Could There Be A Second Season?

  • Takopi's anime adapted the entire manga.
  • Spin-offs or original sequels might still be a possibility.

Given that the manga was fully adapted into anime, it seems difficult for the series to get a new season. However, many readers think that the manga deserves a sequel, a spin-off, or another story set in the same universe, albeit with different characters.

Considering the solid results that the anime had, maybe even better than the production team expected, there is also a chance that the production companies behind the anime will want to produce new Takopi anime, so while the manga was fully adapted, there is a chance that a sequel or a spin-off could be announced in the upcoming months.

Takopi's Original Sin is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
