Surviving without ammo in 7 Days To Die is an almost impossible task. As the player starts racking up kills and completing missions, the difficulty will gradually increase. Eventually, players will need to take on large groups of radiated zombies, demolition zombies, and dire wolves on a daily basis.
While buying ammo and finding it in loot crates is a good way of saving up some extra bullets, it won't be enough to sustain the player's needs. After the first couple of weeks, players will need to begin crafting ammo at their bases in order to survive. This guide will go through all there is to know about crafting ammo.
7 Days To Die: Every Machine Gun, Ranked
Machine guns are generally synonymous with assault rifles in 7 Days To Die, and are useful in every situation.
How To Craft Ammo
Crafting standard bullets doesn't require any specific perks. All you need is a workbench and the materials. However, for explosive ammo, HP bullets, and AP bullets, you'll need to read a certain number of magazines or one specific magazine, depending on the ammo type. The magazine requirements for special ammo can be seen below:

When it comes to crafting bullets, you'll need to have a workbench set up at your base. Bullets can only be crafted at a workbench. Once you've got a workbench set up, you'll need the following materials:
- Bullet Casings
- Bullet Tips
- Gunpowder
How To Get Bullet Components
You'll find all three components needed to craft bullets while exploring the world. From zombie loot bags to end-of-mission loot containers, you'll find bullet-crafting components all over the place. However, just like with the bullets themselves, you'll need to craft these components in order to produce enough ammo to keep yourself stocked up.
Crafting the components needed to make bullets is fairly straightforward. First, you'll need a forge and a chemistry station. Once these are built, then you can start crafting bullet components. See the table below for crafting details:
|
Component |
Crafting Station Requirement |
Resource Cost |
|
Bullet Casings |
Forge |
6 Brass, 1 Clay |
|
Bullet Tips |
Forge |
2 Lead, 1 Clay |
|
Gunpowder |
Chemistry Station |
1 Coal, 1 Nitrate Powder |
|
Gunpowder |
Craft On Persons |
2 Coal, 2 Nitrate Powder |
You will need to smelt the materials to craft bullet casings and bullet tips in the forge before you can craft them. The components needed to craft bullet casings, bullet tips, and gunpowder are pretty easy to come by. Lead, coal, nitrate powder, and clay can all be mined. To find these resources, open up your map and look for the colors listed below:
- Nitrate: White
- Lead: Blue
- Coal: Black
- Clay: Almost everywhere
Brass can't be mined; however, you can find it in loot containers or being sold by traders. You can also get a healthy amount of brass by smelting car radiators and Dukes.
