Soothe Bell is a Happiness-boosting Held Item in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that allows players to strengthen the bonds with their Pokemon much faster than would otherwise be possible. Trainers hoping to unlock all Happiness-related evolutions will be searching for the Soothe Bell in PLZA to make the grind more efficient.

Luckily, the Soothe Bell is relatively easy to find in the game, though it does require progressing to a certain point in the main story and cannot be obtained right from the beginning. Here’s the breakdown.

How to Get a Soothe Bell in Pokemon Legends Z-A

In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Soothe Bell can be obtained as a quest reward for completing Side Mission 36: Some Friendly Competition. Side Mission 36 becomes available after players successfully complete the Canari's Quiz during Main Mission 14, unlocking the fight against Canari to advance to Rank E in the ZA Royale.

Side Mission 36 is issued by a female trainer named Chou, who can be found sitting just outside Cafe Rouleau, right next to Wild Zone 9. Chou sits with her Lopunny and Clefairy on the sidewalk seats in front of the cafe.

The mission is simple: defeat Chou’s two Pokemon in a singles battle. Upon completion, the trainer will award the player with the following:

  • 3,000 Pokedollars
  • Soothe Bell

To use the Soothe Bell, here's what you need to do:

  1. Place the Pokemon whose friendship you want to increase in your party.
  2. Open your Satchel and tab over to “Other Items.”
  3. Scroll down to find the Soothe Bell and press A.
  4. Select “Give to Pokemon.”
  5. Use the left stick to navigate to the Pokemon and press A again to have it hold the item.

Once the Soothe Bell is equipped, any action you do that would otherwise increase a Pokemon’s Happiness will be more effective. If, for example, you win a battle with a Pokemon that is wearing the Soothe Bell, the increase in Happiness will be more than if the Pokemon were not holding the item.

From our testing, it appears the Soothe Bell offers a 50% bonus to Happiness increasing actions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, similar to previous games in the franchise. Roserade Tea can max out a Pokemon’s Happiness when drunk six times alongside that Pokemon. With the Soothe Bell equipped, it only requires three Roserade Teas to max out Happiness.
