Chikorita is the Grass-type starter Pokemon of the Johto region, and as of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you can catch one of your own in Gen 9. Like every other pre-Gen 9 starter Pokemon, you'll need to contribute some Blueberry Points (BP) to expand one of the Biomes in Terarium. While Terarium is exclusive to the Indigo Disk DLC, you can get Chikorita and its evolutions via other methods such as trading. Even if you don't intend on using Chikorita/Bayleef/Meganium in battle, you'll need to have each of them in order to complete Indigo Disk's Blueberry Pokedex.

Where to Find Chikorita in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Coastal Biome
After you contribute 3000BP to the Terarium Club, you'll find Chikorita roaming the wild in the Coastal Biome. Specifically, you'll want to search the grassy fields next to the border separating the Polar and Savanna Biomes from the Coastal Biome. You can send BP by using the computer in the League Club, which you'll gain access to after battling Carmine at the Central Plaza in Terarium.
If you want Chikorita, make sure you send the 3000BP to the Coastal Biome of the Terarium Club, not the other biomes (i.e, Polar, Canyon, Savanna).
The quickest way to grind BP is to complete every Blueberry Quest (BBQ) that you're given. You'll never run out of BBQs since the quests are constantly replacing one another after you complete one. However, the BBQs that have the red background tend to give out more BP than those that have light blue backgrounds. These are Advanced Blueberry Quests, and you'll unlock them after you've completed some of the regular BBQs. Director Cyrano will contact you and start sending more BBQs with red backgrounds, so if you're not seeing them now, just keep completing the ones you currently have.

How to Get Chikorita without the Indigo Disk DLC
Should You Trade or Transfer?
You can also get Chikorita by transferring one using Pokemon HOME or by trading with someone who has one. This is arguably the easier way of getting Chikorita, as you won't have to send 3000BP to the Terarium Club. However, a traded or transferred Chikorita won't have your Trainer ID. Thus, if you want Chikorita with your ID, you'll need to breed the one you received in the trade/transfer.
How to Transfer
Chikorita can be caught in Pokemon GO and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (BDSP). If you want to transfer Chikorita from BDSP, you'll need to get the National Pokedex.
- Once you have Chikorita, you'll want to place it in the PC Box in BDSP.
- Exit out of BDSP, then open Pokemon HOME on the Switch. Go into your BDSP storage, and move Chikorita to the Basic Box. After this, open your Scarlet/Violet file while you're still in HOME to complete the transfer.
Transferring from Pokemon GO is easier. All you'll need to do is catch Chikorita, go into your Settings, Connected Devices and Services, then Pokemon HOME. Find Chikorita, then select Next to Transfer it to your storage in Pokemon HOME. From HOME (on Switch), you can move Chikorita to the Basic Box by clicking on the Pokemon GO icon.
How to Trade
- Turn on wireless communications by pausing the game (X-button) and tapping the L-button.
- Next, go into the Poke Portal, and select Union Circle. You can Form or Join a Group.
- Once this is done, you'll be transported to your group, and then you can go back into Poke Portal, and select Link Trade.

What Level Does Chikorita Evolve?
Chikorita evolves at level 16 into Bayleef, who evolves into Meganium at level 32. You can level up Chikorita quickly by giving it Exp. Candies or Rare Candy. The wild Chikoritas in the Coastal Biome are way above level 32, so just level it up twice (once as Chikorita, another as Bayleef) to get Meganium.
