Exploration in Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake can be quite exhausting, as players will encounter enemies every five to ten seconds. These enemies are not pushovers, so dealing with them can take time, especially while inside dungeons. One aspect of the game that can make these fights even more challenging is the cursed equipment.

There are several cursed items in the game, all of which are not labeled as such before you equip them, but upon doing so, you will be cursed. If a player happens to equip a cursed item, they will find themselves unable to remove it, and this is where the guide below helps and offers information on them in Dragon Quest 1&2 Remake.

Identifying the cursed items is not a hard task in most cases because the description of these items sort of gives a hint of their nature. Therefore, before equipping an item, you can read the description, and if it does not mention anything about taking damage for no reason or attracting more enemies, then you should be good.

The process of removing these cursed items is the same for both Dragon Quest 1 Remake and the second game. You will have to travel to a town that has a church or you can speak to a nun marked on the map. These are the same places where you can manually save your game, check how much experience you need for the next level, or revive a teammate. One of the options these nuns will offer is Benediction, which cures the user of the curse and removes the item to place it in their inventory.

This process does require you to have a good amount of Gold, which might feel like a lot, especially in the early stages of the game. So, it is best if you do not pick up a habit of catching curses; otherwise, you will lose all your gold pretty fast.

It is important to note that the Benediction process does not remove the curse effect from the item. It will only remove the item from the party member, meaning that you should not equip that item again unless you do not mind being cursed again. If the item is more powerful than your current weapons or armor, like the Ten Ton Toupee or Zombie Mail, you can equip it for the duration of a dungeon to make fights less challenging and remove the curse afterward.
