The Boots of Springheel Jak are one of the most useful items you'll obtain during the Thieves Guild Questline in Oblivion: Remastered. They fortify your acrobatics by 50 points, providing a huge boost to your jump height and reducing the fall damage you take. Unfortunately, they'll usually get destroyed during the quest "The Ultimate Heist."

It is possible to prevent the boots from being destroyed in Oblivion: Remastered, though it will require a bit of preparation, so this guide will explain the ways you can finish "The Ultimate Heist" without losing the Boots of Springheel Jak.

How to Prevent the Boots of Springheel Jak from Being Destroyed in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

The Boots of Springheel Jak will ordinarily be destroyed during a scripted event near the end of the quest "The Ultimate Heist." Toward the end of the quest, you'll be required to escape from the Imperial Palace with an Elder Scroll, and your way out is down a chute in the fireplace. The Boots of Springheel Jak will allow you to survive the fall via a scripted event. Still, cushioning the impact will destroy them, so if you want to keep them, you will need to prepare a different method of surviving the fall and remove the boots before you jump down the chute.

If you have at least 40 Athletics Skill and 180 Health, you can survive the fall without needing to wear the boots. You can also use a sloped ledge just below the grate to slow your fall briefly, which will make the distance you drop a tiny bit shorter and could save you if you don't have quite enough health for the fall. There are some bottles of Surilie Brothers Wine in the room with the fireplace, which fortify your health when consumed, which will let you fortify your health and help to make up the difference if you can't quite reach the 180 threshold mentioned earlier. Items that fortify Athletics and Health (other than the boots themselves, naturally) are very handy for pushing your stats up enough to survive the fall.

If you're a Mage with access to the Arcane University or Frostcrag Spire, and you know the Fortify Skill spell effect, you can create a spell of Fortify Athletics or enchant an item with Fortify Athletics to assist with reaching the Athletics Skill needed. You can also create a spell or enchanted item of Fortify Health to reach the 180 Health needed to survive the fall.

Do not re-equip the Boots of Springheel Jak until "The Ultimate Heist" quest has been completed, as jumping with them equipped before the quest is completed can cause a glitch where they will be destroyed as normal, due to the way the script for surviving the fall works.
