Even though Dragonborn constantly has to fight dragons in random encounters or as part of quest lines, sometimes you need to act more extraordinary. As part of “The Fallen” quest, players will have to find out more about the location of Alduin, and Odahviing can help you. However, Odahviing is a giant dragon, and the only way to get some information is to trap it in Skyrim.
At first glance, it may seem that capturing a dragon is suicide, but by gaining the support of Jarl of Whiterun, this will become possible. You will also learn that the dragon's names are Words of Power used to summon them, which will be the key to capturing Odahviing.
Skyrim: How to Get Full Orcish Armor Early
Orcish Armor is one of the best Heavy sets in Skyrim, and here is how to acquire it at any level.
How to Capture Odahviing in Skyrim
Before you can trap Odahviing in Skyrim, you must meet a few prerequisites. As we said earlier, the first thing Dragonborn must do is enlist the support of Jarl of Whiterun, which is only possible after completing the Season Unending quest. However, if you killed Paarthurnax, you must move on in the Civil War questline until Jarl of Whiterun agrees to help you.
Once you have fulfilled this requirement, you will learn that the dragon's names are Words of Power that can be used to summon them. This will allow you to learn Call Dragon shout and become bait for Odahviing. The next step for Dragonborn is to travel to Whiterun and visit Dragonsreach. Discussing the plan with Jarl Balgruuf the Greater will be the final stage of preparation, after which here are the steps you should follow to trap Odahviing in Skyrim:
- After discussing all the details of the plan, go to the upper part of the fortress in a large covered hall with a huge window. In this place, the people of Jarl Balgruuf the Greater have set a trap on the ceiling. So this is where you must lure the dragon.
- Next, go to the balcony and use Call Dragon shout to summon Odahviing and wait a few seconds before it appears on the horizon.
- When it gets closer, the dragon will fly close to the balcony but will not land, so use Dragonrend shout to bring it down to the floor.
- Next, retreat deeper into the room, forcing the dragon to follow you.
- When Odahviing approaches the center of the room, go to the door and climb the left stairs to the upper tier of the room.
- Finally, click on the lever on one of the columns, which will activate the trap and pin the dragon to the floor.
Skyrim: Where to Find the Golden Claw
The Golden Claw is a special key you need to have to open locked doors in Skyrim. And here, you will learn where to find it.
At this point, Odahviing will no longer be able to escape and will be more amenable. In exchange for its freedom, it agrees to guide the Dragonborn to Skuldafn to Alduin. Subsequently killing Alduin and completing the quest line will make Odahviing respect your power. In turn, this will lead to you getting a loyal dragon you can summon as an ally, so this quest is worth the effort.
