Players can pick from Totodile, Chikorita, or Tepig at the beginning of the game, and their final evolutions ( Feraligatr, Meganium, and Emboar) each have a corresponding starter Mega Evolution stone. Pokemon Legends Z-A can acquire all in a single playthrough, but it can take quite a long time to unlock every starter Mega Evolution in the game.

How to Get Other Pokemon Legends Z-A Starter Pokémon

At the very start of Pokemon Legends Z-A, players are given a choice between three pokemon to start with: Totodile (Water), Chikorita(Grass), or Tepig(Fire). After making this choice, you will not be able to get the other two starting pokemon in Legends Z-A until you beat the game and begin post-game content.

After completing Main Mission 37, which can only be accessed after rolling credits, you will unlock Wild Zone 20. This Wild Zone is home to all three starting pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A, allowing players to finally collect 'em all.

Wild Zone 20 also houses several starting pokemon from other Pokemon games, including the original trio of Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander.

Where to Get Starter Mega Evolution Stones in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Once you raise your starter pokemon to a high enough level to reach its third and final evolution, you will be able to give it a corresponding Mega Evolution stone. There are two ways to get starter pokemon Mega Evolution stones in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

  • You will be gifted the Mega Evolution stone for your chosen starter pokemon in Legends Z-A after completing the Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution.
  • Upon returning to Hotel Z, and after accepting all three of your companions' missions, AZ will give you the Mega Evolution stone that corresponds with your starter for free.
Stone Emporium Pokemon Legends Z-A
  • To get the Mega Evolution stones for the two starter pokemon you did not pick at the beginning of the game, you must roll credits, then head to the Stone Emporium (in the southern half of Lumiose City).
  • The starter Mega Evolution stones will be automatically added to the Stone Emporium inventory after you beat the game.

Every starter pokemon Mega Evolution stone Pokemon Legends Z-A players can get costs 100,000 Pokedollars. So, in addition to the free starter Mega Evolution stone AZ gives you after Mission 9, you must spend 200,000 Pokedollars to acquire the missing Meganium, Emboar, or Feraligatr Mega Evolution stones.

Once acquired, give it to your fully-evolved starter pokemon to hold, and it will be able to Mega Evolve during a battle. Over time, the Mega Evolution gauge will build at the bottom-right of the screen – when it fills, press in the right analog stick (R↓) to make your starter pokemon Mega Evolve!
