How to Upgrade Weapons in Cyberpunk 2077

Normal weapons cannot be upgraded in Cyberpunk 2077, and players can only upgrade Iconic weapons. To upgrade Iconic weapons, players are going to need to head into their menu screen, where hovering over Inventory will allow them to select Crafting. After selecting Crafting, select the Upgrades tab to see a list of your Iconic weapons currently in your Backpack to see which of them can be upgraded with the Item Components you have available. Item Components range from Tier 1 to Tier 5, and after players reach the Tier 5 Item Component, they can upgrade their weapon to Tier 5++ for a whopping 200 Tier 5 Item Components. Here's a look at the cost for upgrading a weapon:

All upgrading does is increase the damage of the chosen weapon, and it does not affect any other stat, meaning it's not essential to upgrade weapons when players obtain them. However, sometimes players might get an Iconic weapon that is at Tier 1, and in that case, it's a good idea to upgrade it to Tier 5 so that it performs with the very best.

How to Get Upgrade Components in Cyberpunk 2077

crafting materials in cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077's 2.0 Update has changed the way that players get Crafting Components. Players can no longer purchase Item Components from Vendors. Item Components can be obtained by disassembling clothes, weapons, and weapon mods from the Backpack section of the Inventory Screen. Once players have selected the item that they wish to dismantle for their parts, they can hold Triangle/Y over the weapon to disassemble the item, which will provide them with Item Components depending on the rarity of the item itself. This means that a Tier 5 item will provide Tier 5 Item Components. The easiest way to get Item Components in Cyberpunk 2077 is to purchase weapons of the desired Tier, or by looting weapons off of defeated enemies to disassemble their guns as junk and obtain their materials.
