Dune: Awakening players will be constantly threatened with losing everything due to the sandworm. These gigantic beasts roam the sands of Arrakis in search of prey non-stop, and if players want to farm the riches that pop up in the sands, they need a Thumper.
9 Beginner Tips in Dune: Awakening
For those diving into the sands of Dune: Awakening, here are some useful beginner tips to help them in their adventure.
These tools provoke the Sandworm and attack it in the direction players have deployed it, and are useful for both PvE and PvP. In this guide, players will learn everything about the Thumper and how to use it.
How To Unlock the Thumper in Dune: Awakening
The Thumper is an essential Fremen tool that players will unlock as they complete the Trials of Aql (the main story quest), and can be obtained after completing the fifth trial. The trial itself consists of a tutorial of sorts for using the Thumper and attracting the Sandworm, but it's not all too clear about how to use it for PvE or PvP situations.
How To Attract/Distract Sandworms Using The Thumper
To make use of the Thumper in Dune: Awakening, players need to equip it in their hotbar like any other tool and deploy it using the keys (1 to 8) in Open Sand. The Thumper will begin pulsating, sending shockwaves that will generate 'extreme Sandworm threat', overriding any other source of attraction in the Sandworm's radius of detection.
Keeping in mind that the Sandworms 'patrol' a certain Open Sand area, players need to pay attention and deploy the Thumper as further away as they can before proceeding to looting or farming a Flour Sand or Spice Bloom.
Once players deploy a Thumper, they need to leave immediately, unless they want to become worm food. But be careful not to use Holtzman Shields or Suspensor Belts, since these generate the same attraction field as the thumper and can re-route the Sandworm's aggro towards them.
Players should place the Thumpers in the opposite direction to where they are trying to farm Spice. Placing various Thumpers in quick succession will confuse the worm and keep it busy for longer, while players on the other side of the sandpit farm Spice leisurely.

How To Use Thumper In Dune: Awakening PvP
There are certain situations in which players can use the Thumper to mess with a rival clan or simply have fun thwarting the plans of big-scale Spice operations in Dune: Awakening. Of course, this comes with a high-risk tag attached, since PvP open zones will have players killed on sight by others, so to use the Thumper in PvP, players need to be stealthy.
While in the Open Desert or PvP flagged zones (near Wrecks), players need to use the Binoculars to observe who is farming Spice (or other resources) from the Open Sand, and look for a way to approach undetected. Usually, Bindu Sprint works like a charm, and if players are wearing the Softstep Boots to reduce worm threat, they will be able to reach safely at the Spice Bloom safely where others are farming. Once there, they can drop the Thumper, then use Bindu Sprint to flee back to a hiding spot and watch the mayhem happen.
There are cases where players are engaged in PvP against another group of players, or in Clan vs. Clan situations. In those cases, dropping a Thumper and fleeing gets even easier as they will surely be busy aiming to where enemies are attacking from. Watch out with the crossfire, though, since there's a chance the player using the Thumper to mess up with a spice operation ends up becoming the victim.
