The weapons of Killing Floor 3 all perform splendidly right out of the box, but if you feel like they could use some tweaking, or if you really want your weapons to be very good at one thing, then the game's weapon modding system might have exactly what you're looking for. Weapon customization brings an extra layer of meta-progression to the game, and it's a great addition for those who love tinkering with guns.

Modding your guns in KF3 is fairly simple, but there are a few layers to the customization system here that players will want to know about. This guide covers everything you need to know about how to install attachments and how to make them stronger as you progress your account.

How to Mod Weapons in KF3

KF3 Armory Weapon Selection

Weapons can be customized by interacting with the Armory in Nightfall's base of operations. Either walk directly to the terminal, or press Tab on your keyboard to bring up the shortcuts menu. From the Armory screen, select the weapon you want to customize, and you'll be greeted by a weapon selection screen.

To mod your stuff, do the following:

  1. Pick a weapon to mod.
  2. Create a new loadout.
  3. Select an empty mod slot.
  4. Select the Craft option.
  5. Craft your preferred attachment.
  6. Equip the new attachment.
  7. Save your loadout.

How to Use Crafted Weapons in KF3

KF3 Trader Pod screen

If you want to use customized weapons in Killing Floor 3, you'll need to buy them in-match or during the pre-match prep phase. The more attachments you stick to your weapon, the higher its cost is going to be. Your modded weapons will appear as additional variants of that specific weapon in the Trader Pod.

Make sure your custom weapons aren't too expensive so you can buy them right when the stronger Zeds in KF3 show up.

How to Get Crafting Materials in KF3

KF3 Victory Screen Resources

Weapon Customization in KF3 is available right from the start, but before you can mod anything, you'll need materials. You can get resources for crafting just by playing the game. Zeds have a chance to drop materials when killed, and different Zeds drop different resources. It's currently unclear if you need to meet any conditions or requirements in order to make enemies drop materials.

It's also worth noting that mechanical devices like cameras and security terminals can be destroyed for extra materials. These will drop tech-based resources like Electrical Parts and Scrap Metal.

How to Upgrade Weapon Mods in Killing Floor 3

KF3 Upgrading a mod

Individual attachments can be upgraded to provide even higher stat bonuses. To do so, go to the Armory and pick your weapon, then select the attachment you want to upgrade. Right-click on the attachment to upgrade it.

Upgrading attachments will significantly boost the stats they provide, and once they reach rank 3, they'll unlock an even bigger bonus that affects the entire team. Every time you craft an attachment, it gets a different rank 3 team bonus.
