Ghost of Yotei is an incredibly beautiful game, with a cinematic style and lush landscapes that just beg to be savored. Thankfully, developer Sucker Punch agreed and has included a photo mode that players can use to freeze the action (or a cutscene) in an instant, and get to work editing the scene to their heart's content. In this guide, I'll explain how to use photo mode in Ghost of Yotei, so you can capture those epic moments in Atsu's adventure, as well as unlock the 'Memento' trophy.

How to Use Photo Mode in Ghost of Yotei

A Press of a Button Away

ghost of yotei photo mode

To enter photo mode in Ghost of Yotei, simply press right on the d-pad, and the action will immediately freeze. This can be done in both gameplay and during cutscenes, which can be great for getting really moody scenes when Atsu is facing off with the Yotei Six, for example.

Once you're in photo mode, you can move the camera around with the left analog stick, and change the direction or 'orbit' of the camera with the right stick. L2 and R2 are used to move the camera up and down the Y axis. There are a plethora of other editing options which can be accessed by pressing up and down on the d-pad. These are:

  • Focal Length
  • Roll
  • Depth of Field
  • Focus Distance
  • Color Grading
  • Exposure Bias
  • Contrast
  • Particles
  • Particle Intensity
  • Wind Speed
  • Clouds
  • Time of Day
  • Weather
  • Animated Environment
  • Character Options
  • Emotes
  • Helmet/ Mask Options
  • Sword Glint
  • Aspect Ratio
  • Stamp
  • Music

Once you're happy with your photo, press the Share button (left of the touchpad) on your DualSense controller to take and select the 'Take a Screenshot' option. Ghost of Yotei doesn't have an in-built screenshot capture option, so you'll need to use the PS5 system's one. This works completely fine, though, so don't worry about it too much.

Make sure to press Triangle once you're done editing your photo to hide the options and UI before you take your screenshot.

Your Ghost of Yotei photo mode creations can be found in your PS5's Media Library, which can be accessed from the home screen menu.

How to Get Memento Trophy in Ghost of Yotei

The wording for the Memento trophy reads: "Personalize a scene in Photo Mode," which might suggest you need to do something specific in order to get it to unlock. Fortunately, that's not the case.

As long as you move the camera or use one of the various editing options, such as camera roll, saturation, emotes, or brightness, the trophy will unlock as soon as you exit Photo Mode. You don't even need to actually capture a screenshot.

We've got other suggestions for things to do first in Ghost of Yotei, but you should also get your own horse within the first couple of hours, too.
