Cobalt Paste is an essential item that plays a big part in many crafting projects in Dune: Awakening come the early-mid game. Getting the materials needed to make this component is pretty simple, but the process itself can be long and tiring depending on how well-equipped players are.
If you want to start crafting better gear in Dune: Awakening, then you'll need a lot of Cobalt Paste for essential base buildings and other crafting recipes. Here's where you need to in order to get the main materials needed for this crafting component.
Dune Awakening: How to Get Spice-Infused Copper Dust
Spice-Infused Copper Dust is an incredibly rare crafting material required to fabricate unique weapons, armor, and tools in Dune: Awakening.
How to Make Cobalt Paste
To get Cobalt Paste, you'll need to mine Erythrite Crystals, which you can find in Hagga Rift. Specifically, you need to go underground and explore the gigantic chasm created by CHOAM mining operations. You can find Erythrite nodes almost everywhere underground — this includes some Moisture Sealed Caves like Riftrun Passage and the enormous tunnels spanning the many CHOAM Mining Extraction Facilities in the Rift.
The CHOAM mining facilities are full of crystal nodes, loot, and hostile NPCs. However, it is absolutely massive, and it'll easily take players an hour's worth of on-foot exploration in order to scour the chasm. If you want to enter the Hagga Rift, make sure to bring a Literjon full of water, or wear a Stillsuit so you don't dehydrate to death.
The CHOAM Mining Facilities also have chests that have a chance to contain Ray Amplifiers, one of the components needed to build a Cutterray Mk3.
Cobalt Paste Recipe
After you've collected enough Erythrite Crystals, go back to your base and interact with your Chemical Refinery. To craft one Cobalt Paste, you'll need:
- 3 Erythrium Crystals
- 75 Water
Given how Iron and Steel also require Water, you'll need to make sure that you have a steady source of Water near your base. Big NPC camps are great for extracting blood, but if you don't want to build too close to their bases, you can try finding a spot close to a bed of flowers. Dew Extractors can harvest plenty of Water from plants, especially if you start harvesting a little bit past midnight.
Additionally, keep in mind that all ore nodes respawn after a set duration. If you don't want to delve into the Hagga Rift again, you can try hitting the Moisture Caves on the surface for an easier time getting Erythrite Crystals. Riftrun Passage, which connects Hagga Basin to Jabal Eifrit, is a great place to raid for crystals.
You can easily ascend and descend from the Hagga Rift on foot by going to The Spiral, a POI far to the north. It's basically a comically-long spiral staircase with multiple exits that lead to the different levels of the chasm. The very bottom also has a chance with a decent chance of containing up to 8 Ray Amplifiers.
