Legendary weapons have some of the craziest and most powerful effects among all the guns and equipment in Borderlands 4. These are often build-defining items that give massive power spikes to players,
As powerful as they are, legendaries are exceptionally rare in Borderlands 4, and players likely won't get a legendary item unless they dedicate a bit of time farming, or if they get extremely lucky. Either way, if you want the best possible chance of getting legendary items, here are some things you can try.
Borderlands 4 May Have Managed to Top Even BL2 in One Key Area
Borderlands 4's marketing campaign is in full swing, and a recent gameplay breakdown shows one area in which the sequel could even top Borderlands 2.
Play on Hard Mode
Hard mode increases the loot drop rate of enemies, but it also makes them hit harder and take more damage, and more importantly, elemental weaknesses become much more important when fighting enemies at this difficulty level. If you hit a shield with an Incendiary weapon, for example, you'll receive a harsher damage penalty against them.
Normally, we recommend just playing on Normal and finishing the campaign before farming for gear early on. However, if you really want to get better loot before the campaign ends, then this is the way to go.
Hard mode is available only during the campaign. After that, it is replaced by Ultimate Vault Hunter mode.
Farming Bosses in Borderlands 4
Bosses have a much higher chance of dropping legendaries compared to normal and Badass enemies. Thankfully, unlike in past Borderlands games, players can farm bosses in Borderlands 4 by using Moxxi's Encore Machines. Just pay the machine a set amount of Cash, then walk back into the boss arena to challenge them again.

For the sake of farming legendary items during the campaign, we strongly recommend fighting the optional Vault monsters first. These guys have the highest odds of dropping legendaries, and they aren't that hard to take down either. However, you will need to collect all the Vault Key Fragments in a region if you want to fight the Vault monster locked in a specific biome.
Bosses in Borderlands 4 have dedicated loot tables, which means you won't be able to get every legendary in the game just by farming a single boss.
Once you unlock a Vault, you'll have to fight through three combat encounters inside the Vault itself before you can reach the boss. Every time you re-enter a Vault, you'll need to run all the way back to the Vault Monster's arena from the Vault entrance. However, you don't need to kill any of the enemies along the way again, as jump pads will remain active after you turn them on the first time.
Out of the three Vault Monsters, Origo is arguably the easiest to fight. This boss doesn't have any invulnerability phases, nor does it have any stall mechanics. Making it very similar to older Borderlands bosses. Just drop into its lair, and start shooting until it spits out loot. Also, don't remember to open the red chests in the room after a Vault Boss fight. They may also containt legendary items inside them.
Splashzone, the very first Psycho mini-boss you fight in the campaign, is also worth re-farming since he's so easy to beat.
Drill Sites
Ripper Drill Sites are excellent farming spots for legendary items in Borderlands 4. You can farm all of them for a chance at getting loot, but if you want some place reliable, then The Prospects site in the Fadefields is a wonderful place to start.
The boss here, Sidney Pointylegs, has a chance to drop the legendary Swarm grenade, which unleashes a cloud of homing drones that can continuously damage enemies. Once you get that, you'll be able to farm other Drill Sites more easily.
